Exactly! I hope they appeal this specifically on that.

This is getting crazy! GET THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF PRIVATE BUSINESS' BUSINESS.

His business may suffer for it, but it is his right to serve whomever he pleases, and deny service for whatever reason he pleases, even those listed in that Ohio law.

My sister lived on St. Maarten. Her healthcare provider was American Express based in Florida. When she called in reference to a medical problem, she could not get an English speaking operator. They only spoke Spanish. Does she have a case?

The Ohio Civil Rights Commission has ruled a sign in the window of a southwest Ohio tavern declaring, "For Service, Speak English," is discriminatory.

-snip-

"I really think it's an affront to Hispanic families in the area, and I'm glad that the commission agreed that it's illegal discrimination," said Elizabeth Brown, HOME's executive director.

What makes her so sure that it was aimed at Hispanic people? Spanish isn't the only other language spoken in this country.

Commission spokeswoman Christia Alou White said the tavern could be ordered to remove the sign, to pay for advertisements about nondiscrimination, and its staff could be ordered to undergo diversity training or cultural sensitivity training.

A reminder for those who think we live in a free country.

This is one of my biggest "peeves." I worked in a Radiology department several years ago - in a Spanish area. Everyone kept telling me to take some Spanish classes because I would get a job easier down the road. It used to tick me off that I would have to accommodate people coming to this country.

Anyway, I was always amazed at just how much English these Spanish people really knew! I would prove it to everyone who told me to take Spanish classes.

While I was trying to get x-rays of these people, I would ask them to turn a certain way. The reply was always, "No English." I'd show them what to do or just put them where they needed to be placed. After I was done, I would say, "OK, you can sit in the waiting room until the doctor takes a look at this. It might be 1 to 1-1/2 hours or so."

Oh Man - just about every one of them would say, "What -- 1 to 1-1/2 hours? I can't wait that long!" -- in PERFECT English!!!!

They were lazy and wanted everything taken care of for them, which this country has allowed to go on and on. It never ends.

Add Ohio to the list of places never to visit.

...If there's a long-term plan to eliminate North American borders, then let's discuss what that means for all North Americans....

There IS a plan, but you are just the guy who's going to pay for it. You're not going to get to offer an opinion.

Property comes with a bundle of rights. They include the right of use, to subdivide, to bar others entry and the right to develop. The property itself doesn't have "rights." The individual has rights in that property he owns.

When you can no longer use your property as you see fit because of a government decree, you no longer own that property. Government has become the de facto owner. You are just a serf keeping up the property and paying rent.

Government managing private property is a bellwether of every totalitarian regime - communist, socialist, fascist. It is the anti-individual government. It is government of the government, by the government, for the government’s common good.

This ruling by these Marxists reeks of fascism.

And I fully expect the courts, the legislature and the executive to embrace this fascism.

The list keeps getting longer and longer...

race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age or ancestry.

The law is probably too vague to pass constitutional muster; the owner should welcome the order and then appeal to the state's high court for an opinion on the law.

They can't. This mess was more than likely started by some liberal do-gooder who has worked very hard to mess this country up.

how about a sign that says "I don't speak Spanish, I speak English!"

The owner should have injected one word -- BETTER.

"For BETTER service, speak English."

It would be impossible, I believe, even for a knucklehead Civil Rights Commission, to argue that the service would be swimmingly the same to someone who does not speak a lick of English.

This is a 'better' way. It gets your point across but lets the "customers" know that they had better learn to speak English if they expect anyone to understand them here in the good ol' USA.

"If you go to their website you do not see a link to "contact us". Gee...I wonder why?"

"pssssst...there are no white people on the commission"

So you are suggesting I:

A. Attempt to contact them using Ebonics

B. Lure them in with a burrito and a bottle of Dos Equis

Wow...that was soooooo UN-PC of me!...I think I'll go have a Coors! :)

:) I just found it mildly amusing that the Ohio Civil Rights commission has only people of color.

BTW, being a Cubs fan, I hate the Cardinals and I am apathetic about the White Sox. If both make it all the way, I guess I start looking for ESPN classics about the US Olympic luge team.
