Woman Has 16th Baby, Is Ready For More All Children's Names Start With J

POSTED: 4:04 pm EST October 12, 2005

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Michelle Duggar just delivered her 16th child, and she's already thinking about doing it again.

Johannah Faith Duggar was born at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday and weighed 7 pounds, 6.5 ounces.

The baby's father, Jim Bob Duggar, a former state representative, said Wednesday that mother and child were doing well.

He said Johannah's birth was especially exciting because it was the first time in eight years the family has had a girl.

Jim Bob Duggar, 40, said he and Michelle, 39, want more children.

"We both just love children and we consider each a blessing from the Lord. I have asked Michelle if she wants more and she said yes, if the Lord wants to give us some she will accept them," he said.

The Discovery Health Channel filmed Johannah's birth and plans to air a show about the family of 18 next May.

The Learning Channel is doing another show about the family's construction project, a 7,000-square foot house that should be finished before Christmas. The home, which the family has been building for two years, will have nine bathrooms, dormitory-style bedrooms for the girls and boys, a commercial kitchen, four washing machines and four dryers.

Jim Bob Duggar, who sells real estate, previously lost his bid for the U.S. Senate. He said he expects to run for the state Senate next year but isn't ready to make a formal announcement.

Michelle Duggar had her first child at age 21, four years after the couple married.

Their children include two sets of twins, and each child has a name beginning with the letter "J": Joshua, 17; John David, 15; Janna, 15; Jill, 14; Jessa, 12; Jinger, 11; Joseph, 10; Josiah, 9; Joy-Anna, 8; Jeremiah, 6; Jedidiah, 6; Jason, 5; James, 4; Justin, 2; and Jackson Levi, 1.

I'm reminded of a scene from Monty Python's 'Meaning of Life'.

Gee thanks, Keith. I used the word 'woman' in my search to see if it had been posted earlier. Thanks for watching out for the rest of us. Why don't you just use the 'abuse' button next time and have it removed than go through all the work of copying and pasting? Just a helpful hint.

It's not a lot of trouble...

And here's a helpful hint: the two headlines have "16th" in common - if you had searched on that, you would have found the first one.

If you saw the documentary, you would be even more speechless...lol These folks have a wonderful Christian family. They pay cash for every vehicle they buy, etc. They own the land they are building the new house on...own the home they live in now...do not owe money to anyone and are not on government assistance. They are building their new home with their children's help and paying for it as they build it (7,000 sq ft). They home school their children, they each are assigned chores, the older children have "buddies" (the smaller children) they are responsible for and all are extremely content. The most well behaved children you would ever want to be around. Impressive! I think they are re-running the documentary on Discovery Health Channel. And in March DHC will air a new episode...it is amazing how they manage their money, buy groceries, do laundry, etc. They should write a book on how to raise children in today's world and economy...

We had a fire chief in a nearby town with the first name of "Seventeen", and yes, it was because he was the seventeenth child, and his mother ran out of names.

My dad is the youngest of 17 kids, and no one would have even considered having "help" (welfare, etc.) when he was growing up. All of them did extremely well, and my grandparents lived well into their 80's. It wasn't rare to have that many kids back then (he was born in 1937). I saw the documentary on these folks, and they are exceptionally fine folks!

No, I suspect it's not a lot of trouble. I'm guessing you live for other people's mishaps. You posting police are mighty bores.

Really, it's not any trouble at all.

And people who whine like you are about something like this are just as boring as you think I am.

Not to be outdone... french canadian family (friends of ours) had 20 children. The mother was about 5 ft. and ran a bakery for a small town in Canada. She lived to be over 90.

I grew up next to the family known locally as the ABC Smith's (not their real last name).

The oldest was Abe, then Betty and so on. They eventually got to Ione.
