I think Houston is a sprawling sh-thole and that Port Arthur is a pit. Outside of that, Texas truly is a great state with friendly people to boot. Love the Hill Country (cool German Churches), San Antonio, Austin, and even places like Del Rio have their charm (such as that city's museaum, with the largest creche display in North America).
