Good Health Habits
Good health habits are also an important way to help prevent the Flu.
- Avoid close contact.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.
- Stay home when you are sick.
If possible, stay home from work, school, and errands when you are sick. You will help prevent others from catching your illness.
- Cover your mouth and nose.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. It may prevent those around you from getting sick.
- Clean your hands.
Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.

Just a reminder of common sense precautions that seem timely as Tamiflu may be minimally effective against H5N1.
Some other personal recommendations are to spray keyboards and telephones with Lysol, use virus-killing tissues, keep a bottle of alcohol-based hand sanitizer with you and use it after shaking hands with someone, take your vitamins, get some excercise, and eat right ("Yes, Mom!").
Call me an alarmist...it's ok. I'm used to the moniker.

And always wear clean underwear in case you are ever in an accident.

I'm not getting paranoid over a stupid flu virus. If this stuff starts going around I'll do my best to get the shot. Otherwise, I want to take every chance I can to GET IT, fight it, and get over it. Worrying about it can only hurt my immune system. :)

Kleenex® makes an anti-viral tissue named, oddly enough, Kleenex® Anti-Viral brand tissues. The tissues are impregnated with citric acid to kill the little buggers.

Well, no good deed is ever left unpunished. This article is no longer on the sidebar. :(
Although, I do indeed defer to the wisdom of the Admin mods.

There is no shot available for the avian strain right now.

Yeah - and buy a huge generator and have some computer geek sell you some protectice software and prepare for the crash of civilization. Oh, Wait! That was Y2K - never mind.

Yeah - and buy a huge generator and have some computer geek sell you some protectice software and prepare for the crash of civilization Well, with so many blasted articles being posted about the spread of the bird flu, I figured it was about time someone gave pertinent and inexpensive precautionary information. And yes, I am a professional mother. :)

Hire some Mormons for personal assistants and make sure everything is handed to you wrapped in a clean tissue.

I'm not getting paranoid over a stupid flu virus. Considering that the only way to get it right now is from infected birds, that's a pretty good idea.
There have been no recorded cases of human-to-human transfer of avian flu so far..
That means the only people currently in danger of catching avian flu are the people running chicken farms, turkey farms, etc.. ..
TYSON IND. beware!!!

"That means the only people currently in danger..." Assessing when "currently" ends is a delicate subject matter when it relates to flu epidemic projection models.
