This is a developing story. Evidently, the Miers nomination will be digging into problems with the Texas lottery that went all the way to then Governor Bush.
John Fund is breaking this story . This will be his second damaging scoop in two days.

Is the story that there is dirt on Miers, or that the democrats are going to use the hearings to infer that there is? The latter. And the mudslinging is aimed at Miers and GWB both. This is old news, just emerging.

I'm underwhelmed by Miers' qualifications. But nothing I have seen suggests to me that she is the least bit dishonorable or dishonest.

I knew a 5 year term as the lottery lady was trouble. The lottery itself dropped from 1st in the nation to 4th -- not sure if the others grew and overtook, but there are some unflattering reports of "game rule changes" that reduced revenue. All very accessible stuff. Dark side had it out and pretty well reviewd by the 8th or 9th of October.

She cleaned up the Lottery. Dig all you want into a good job done.
Dog Gone, that was my impression as well. I did a Yahoo! search using Texas Lottery Draper and found a few articles to read up on...GTech was the company involved in the lottery, but I'm as interested in the dates of lottery activities as in the players. I think sinkspur said something about they would have brought it up for 2000 if President Bush was involved. I tend to agree with sinkspur.
Democrat Party right now is like a swarm of gnats...each one is just a nuisance easily squashed, but collectively they seem hellbent on knocking "us" offpoint.
It is really tiresome...anybody got a can of industrial RAID?

If the former, I don't believe it. Gore's people were all over Austin looking for anything they could find.
...and making up and hallucinating the rest!
This puppy needs to be resolved now...we need a timeline of activities and players. If its a clean timeline, our job is done. The Dems will shut up and move on to the next most ridiculous accusation. Think I'll google for a while...my new tagline.

Fund has apparently gone the last yard and seems to prefer to see the Dem's in power than to see GWB have the Miers nomination succeed. I saw this same crap in 1976 and 1992. The result was Carter and Clinton. No thanks. I voted for Bush. He won. He gets to nominate who he believes would be best for the Supreme Court. So far he has nominated/appointed Charles Pickering, William Pryor, Priscilla Owen, and Janice Rogers Brown to the Circuit courts. I trust him a lot more than I trust Fund.

For some reason Fund has been having a hissy fit over this nomination from the start.

I read some stuff about the Texas Lottery stuff...and Miers was brought in after the fact, cleaned it up....has NOTHING to do with any scandal.

You got that right. When I read a few weeks ago that Miers was in and around then Governor Bush during the Lottery thing, and that she was within 1,000 miles of the National Guard story, I KNEW this would get brought up.
If I knew it, then why didn't someone who could have foreseen this, do something about it?

"Fund is reporting on what the plans of the Democrats are.Hewitt's fill-in host reported that the hearings will also get into all the old allegations about the Texas National Guard".
Good! We shall once again shine the light of truth on the lies... this time we'll take turn-coat Conservatives down with the media!
