NALCHIK, Russia Oct 18, 2005 — Shooting broke out Tuesday morning in three districts of the southern Russian city of Nalchik, as police and security forces said they were launching special operations to detain suspected militants.

Alleged Islamic extremists conducted a coordinated series of attacks on police and other government buildings in the city on Thursday, and some 137 people were killed in the fighting.

Local television on Tuesday urged residents not to leave their homes if possible, and school administrators advised parents to take their children home from schools.

Shooting was heard in the suburb of Dubki, where the city's main morgue is and where security forces were conducting a sweep for suspected rebels. Gunfire also broke out on the southwestern edge of town and in the center, near police precinct No. 3.

The Interfax news agency reported that police killed a man early Tuesday when he allegedly put up resistance during a document check. Two other men who resisted managed to escape, Interfax said.

Looks like the Ruskies are takin' out the trash.....

When they say crackdown, they don't mean question or question and detain...they just kill you....

Kinda rough living with a certain percentage of Muslims in your neighborhood. Wonder how long they will be able to attack and move with immunity under the protections of religious freedom?

Wonder what kind of wacko's are in government positions that they believe that murder is religious. What, is our country run by closet psychopaths?

Like to see us follow that angle when it comes to fanatical islamists whose goal is to only kill westerners.
Waste them.

The Russians know what to do to people who are willing to die to kill Russians.

They are being killing on the spot.

Really very simple.

Works fine in Kazan. Of course the local muslims got the kind attentions of Ivan the Terrible in the 1500's.

Problem is, these people are Russian citizens, quite a few are Russians by ethnicity....Islam is their common denominator, their common contagion.

Ivan Grozny (the Feared not the Terrible) also had the architects eyes gouged out with spoons so he couldn't build another one.

Terrible is an English mis-translation...there are a lot of them. Grozny means feared. That is why the fortress in the south was named Grozny (then it became a city) as it was feared by the Chechen slave raiders.

You cannot have a Russian Muslim. If someone is a Muslim, his first and last loyalty is to the Islamic Ummah

Puttin' on my pedantic translator hat - Terrible is an acceptable translation. Groznyj actually means threatening or menacing. Strict translation would be Ivan the Fearsome. ;-)

Well, actually you have "russkie" who are ethnic Russians and "rosiyane" which encompasses all ethnic groups who live in the Russian Federation. Most "Russian" Muslims do actually identify themselves as "Russian" first. A lot are non-practicing, or only practice what they chose. For example, I've had shots of vodka with Chechens, Ingush, Dagestany, Azeris, Tatars, etc. - all who were "Muslims."
