Well, either scenario is preferable to the CIA's version. After all, even the most insane conspiratorial nutbag wasn't clever enough to insist that airplanes gain altitude without wings.

Bush's fault. Wait, wrong administration.

I have never been convinced by the A/C overheating claim. I used to know one witness who swore to have seen ground-to-air activity. It's all very peculiar. Like the Phoenix lights. Except with many lost lives. And a connection to the JFK airport which seems to have been involved in many incidents near and disastrous.

But .. I still say just blowing the jet apart was not what landed on the water. What landed on the water were miniscule pieces of the plane. That one blast from the tank (which they're showing they tested) would not have shattered the plane all to pieces. The fumes blasted out one huge area - and could have possibly broken the plane in two - but that still doesn't explain all the pieces.

I remember seeing the burning pieces all over the water - and my first reaction was - a missle blew it up. That reaction was way before anybody said anything about the cause.

It's really difficult to believe that the entire NTSB, a collection of pretty mild-mannered nerds, and all the NTSB folks on the show tonight are part of a grand conspiratorial coverup or that their families will be killed if they speak out or something.

I realize most on FR really want it to have been a terrorist missle, but I do hope some did watch this so that they were exposed to somthing besides Cashill's rants (I really think there are a lot of people who have those as their source of knowledge about the crash.)

Center tank detonation. Sure.

As an experiment, they dumped an entire Hibachi full of red-hot coals into a huge fuel tank full of the same fuel type as on TWA 800, and NOTHING happened --the fuel is specifically engineered to burn, but not DETONATE in the manner that occurred.

That's a true story.

I am somewhat disappointed. I was hoping new info would be added. But the underwater shots were awesome.

Riddle me this Strategerist:

The plane was shot down on the same day as Saddam's big celebration of the birthday of the Iraqi Bath party.

Purely coincidence, right?

Just like the coincidence of 258 witnesses on land, sea and in the air, all seeing the same thing; a light rising up from the sea, zig-zagging towards the plane, followed by an explosion.

Here's a more personal hint: My cousin-in-law, a total 'Toon apologists, swears it was all on the up-and-up because he spoke to some retired FBI assistant investigator who allegedly worked on the investigation and told him it was an "accident".

P.S. If Flight 800 was an "accident", then Lee Harvey Oswald also "accidentally" shot JFK.

It needn't have been a missle either . . .

Shoe bomb suspect 'did not act alone'

Hair and prints were reportedly found on Reid's shoes

The FBI has discovered forensic evidence that indicates alleged shoe bomber Richard Reid had help making the explosives found in his shoes on board an American-bound flight.

American news reports say hair and palm prints have been found on the shoes, which have been the subject of several tests since Mr Reid's arrest on 22 December.

Mr Reid, a Briton coverted to Islam, allegedly tried to set fire to explosives in his shoes while on an American Airlines flight from Paris bound for Miami. He denies the charges.

Reid allegedly told investigators he had acted alone

He was overpowered by passengers and sedated by an on-board doctor until the flight was diverted to Boston's Logan Airport, where he was arrested.

American news channel CNN says the FBI has concluded that the presence of such samples means Mr Reid was aided in assembling the bomb.

Powerful explosive

Mr Reid is said to have told investigators that he used a recipe from the internet to make a rare explosive known as TATP, or triacetone triperoxide.

He said he bought the ingredients from either a Czech or Slovak man in Amsterdam, one of the many places he travelled through.

He also said that he acted alone.

The TATP would have been used to set alight more powerful explosives called PETN, which experts say would have been powerful enough to blow a hole in the side of the plane and cause it to crash.

According to the French newspaper Le Parisien, the reported discovery of TATP links Mr Reid to two Islamic fundamentalist groups linked to Osama Bin Laden's al-Qaeda network.

Mr Reid was formally charged last week in a Boston court with attempted murder and attempted destruction of an airliner.

You don't need a grand conspiracy for the official conclusion to be fatuous. Look at Columbia: the engineers at NASA didn't think the foam striking the wing would be a serious problem. They were wrong. Errors happen. Wrong conclusions are reached by well intention, generally competent people.

Clinton Cover-ups 101

Vince Foster, found in Ft. Marcy Park with a gun in his right hand, no blood, carpet fibers on his clothes. A witness to two large men at the scene, Foster's car NOT at the scene. --- Suicide.

Ron Brown, died in a jet crash in Yugoslavia in the rain. No Flight Recorder on the plane. Three top government medical examiners observed a .45 hole in his head, metal fragments in an X-ray of his head. Files stolen, doctors told to shut up or be arrested for violating national security. Brown had threatened to provide evidence of selling tickets on Commerce Dept trips in exchange for campaign finances. Kept the information in his briefcase which was never recovered. -- Buried. (If they ever dug him up, I bet the body is gone)

Jim McDougal, died in prison of a heart attack after being put in solitary confinement without his heart medication and left unobserved. Had threatened to provide evidence to special prosecutor on White Water exposing a scam to sell land, loan large amounts to Clinton contributors, and allow them to default the loans where the only loser was the govt who provided insurance for defaults. -- Dead.

Seventeen Sailors, crew on the USS Cole that were victims of a policy of ignorance. A policy that put their ship in a dangerous Yemeni harbor and did not allow ammunition in the on-deck guns, did not provide a small-craft to intercept oncoming boats, and pretended the attack was made by a harbor craft despite it was not anything like a harbor craft. -- Dead.

The list is much longer, but I tire...

Since ground crews and baggage handlers had access to the tank, I've long suspected thermite or some other incindiary device could have been the culprit.

258 witnesses were discredited - most of whom said they saw a streak of light leave the ground and strike the plane. And most of those people were very credible - pilots - military - people in sciences who understood what they were seeing.

It's one of those things that I just believe, and nothing can change my mind.

I think you mean "bomb sniffing dogs".

Pretty convenient, huh? I wonder how many US airliners have been contaminated with explosive residue because they have been used as props to train dogs.

Imagine that you wished to package explosive materials so that it could be hidden on an airliner and it emanates vapors so that dogs can sense it AND it somehow leaves a residue that can be detected after the plane crashes into the water weeks later. How would you do that?

What do you want to bet that the original documents of the training organization are not available to the public? What do you want to bet that the training team has never delivered or used a trained dog at any other time.

I have been up since 4:30 painting the foyer. Up & down Up & down up & down that damned extension ladder. One husband, three sons, so who spends the day at the top of a 22 foot ladder? Yes, I meant drug sniffing dogs, LOL!

In light of the reminder above about the shoe bomber, the fact that the residue was found in (or was it under?) a peice of carpet made more sense to me than it did to the guy on TV.

I don't know enough about this to have an opinion which carries any weight. 258 seems too large of a large number to be wrong or to misinterpret what they see.

Talking about the Pheonix lights. My son plays Team Handball (won the Gold in Brazil-have to brag).

When he returned from one tournament, I picked him up at MARTA (Atlanta Rapid Transit) at 12:00 midnight. This was after 9/11 - terror in the sky was a reality.

We traveled north up the expressway towards Forsyth County.

My son is not much of a talker when he is tired and when he is tired, he is grumpy so no one was talking. Just driving along.

Suddenly out of the sky at about a 60 degree angle, in an east to west direction was a huge "thing" going towards the ground.

I would say it was a flash of light or a meteor, but it wasn't.

It was green with a short tail. It looked like (and I swear to God this part is true) one of those rockets you would see in an early black & white cartoon. Cylinder shaped, pointed at the end closest to the ground.

My son saw it. At the same time we both said "Did you see that?" We`watched for an explosion or any sign of an impact-nothing.

My son asked me if I was going to call the sheriff's dept. Yeah right. "Officer, I just saw a green cartoon rocket traveling towards earth near exit 13."

There was never anything in the news and to this day I wonder about that. Weird.

A ghost image. Is that a common occurence?

I don't know which specific radar you are talking about. The way primary (skin track, as opposed to transponder or secondary) ATC radar work, they get lots of "false alarms", at different detection levels.

The standard is generally one false "contact" or "primative" per scan of 360 degrees. ( Navy uses "contact", FAA "primative".) If a primative correlates with another primative on the next scan, a tentative track is formed. After several scans, depending on the design and history of correlated returns, the tenative track is promoted to "established" and reported to ATC or deemed false and dropped.

An uncorrelated plot is insignificant. Several would be significant, even if uncorrelated. Generally, the logic used for ATC will not correlate skin tracks from targets moving with a ground speed in excess of 600 kts, which excludes high performance military jets, and significantly, most air to air missiles.

Ghost images are not nearly so common as they once where. A combination of automatic detection and improved signal processing. However you do get false detections, but those will not be correlated from scan to scan, they will essentially be random "sparkle" (Which is what the AWACS guys call the similar false detections on their radar displays).

Talked aout an (?) Air Force jet that was under the explosion.

It was an Air National Guard helicopter, from a rescue unit.

So far, on the repeat, they haven't mentioned the crew's report of an Ordnance Explosion , which would be much different than a fuel explosion. At least one of them had seen such explosions before, directed at his aircraft, in the sky over Vietnam.
