Texas Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Tom DeLay

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- A Texas court on Wednesday issued a warrant for former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's arrest, and set an initial $10,000 bail as a routine step before his first court appearance on conspiracy and state money laundering charges.

Travis County court officials said DeLay was ordered to appear at the Fort Bend County, Texas, jail for booking, where he'd likely be fingerprinted and photographed. DeLay's lawyers had hoped to avoid such a spectacle.

The warrant, known as a capias, is "a matter of routine and bond will be posted," DeLay attorney Dick DeGuerin said.

The lawyer declined to say when DeLay would surrender to authorities but said the lawmaker would make his first court appearance Friday morning.

The charges against the Texas Republican stem from allegations that a DeLay-founded Texas political committee funneled corporate money into state GOP legislative races through the National Republican Party.

I was just about to post this.

What the hell is up with this...I thought Earle's case was falling apart. Is this routine?

All DeLay has to post on the bail is $1,000 cash and collateral. No biggie.

Now the libs will get what they want: DeLay's mugshot. Case will be thrown out in less than a month.

Pinging some who might know better than I . . . if the warrant stems from Travis County, why do they order him to appear in Fort Bend?

Why not either Travis County, where the warrant originates, or whatever hellhole county in DC he stays in?

No biggie.

I'm sure the Evening News will treat it that way.

If DeLay is guilty, he should go to jail.

If he's not, Earle should.

Fort Bend is the county he lives in and represents, I believe. I think Sugarland is in Fort Bend (Near Houston).

Of course, now that they'll have DeLay's fingerprints, they can finally prove who D.B. Cooper was and who shot JFK! And I also hear rumors that DeLay can't account for his wherabouts when the Jack the Ripper murders occured./sarcasm

Fort Bend is his home county and he had the option of showing up there. It was probably pre-arranged by his lawyers. Better Fort Bend than Travis County.

There is only one reason why a warrant would be issed for Tom Delay, and that is so that his mugshot can be published from coast to coast. I'll bet you a burger that we never see another picture ever of TD..

Earle should go to jail anyway.

I think that is the point. Get Delay fingerprinted and his mugshot before the case falls apart. Remember this is more about the impression of guilt that really being guilty.

Yes, warrant served in Fort Bend County (Sugarland, Texas) for DeLay's convenience.

I thought Dick DeGuerin was the best.
Could he not prevent this BS?
