(CNSNews.com) - Gun makers, distributors and dealers moved one step closer Thursday to being exempt from liability lawsuits unless they violate a law or federal regulation or their products are defective. The House of Representatives passed the "Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act" by a vote of 283 to 144. More to Follow
At least some good news has come out of Washington in the last month.
The Senate will be a big hurdle for common sense.
That is a good margin!
is this the house version or the senate version with riders?
Nearly a two to one margin.
I like it!
A LOT!
Jack.
Senate passed it before the summer after years of having it blocked there.
this is about the only legislation where the extra senate seats have paid off.
the dems used to be able to attach anti abortion legislation against anti abortion protestors which would kill this bill.
Sending a message to the senate. Unless this is the final step in the passage of the law. The reconciliation bill.
The House isn't the hurdle, the Senate is.
True, RKBA:
It'll come down to a vote on Party Lines.
Republicans will still win.
Jack.

(Fairfax, VA) - Today the United States House of Representatives passed the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (S. 397) by a bipartisan vote of 283-144. The legislation now moves to President Bushs desk for his expected signature.
Damn. Not perfect, but I'll take it.
Bush will sign. Course, we know from people here on FR that he's no conservative. Just the best friend of gun owners in a long time.
Just the best friend of gun owners in a long time.
rofl! when was the last time there was actually a friend to gun owners in the oval office? maybe teddy?
Now that this is all but done, we need a Lawful Commerce In All Goods Act.
"If you use a product other than in the lawful manner in which it is intended to be used and you are injured, you can't sue."
If something like this gets passed, American industry will accelerate again. As it is right now, nobody wants to do *anything* new because of the fear of lawsuits - which doesn't constrain foreign companies nearly as much.
I have a client that had a wonderful, innovative design for modular concrete fencing that was cheap to make and could have been easily deployed as a barrier on the border. The project was shelved because of stupid liability reasons.
It's great that we've saved our critical firearms industry, but we need to save ALL our industry from the predations of shark-lawyers and liberals with an agenda.
Agreed. And we need an personal responsibility act: if you eat 500 Big Macs, you can't sue for obesity. It's coming, slowly but surely.
Definately one giant leap forward for liberty, with one more little, bitty, no-one-will-ever-really-be-put-in-jail-for-not-using-the-trigger-lock step backward.
Of course he'll sign it - he hasn't vetoed a thing put on his desk yet!
I knew the Bush bashers would find a way to turn this one against the president, too. Sigh.
Great idea, but why stop with industry?
Why not protect farmers, doctors, engineers, any productive person plying his trade in a legal fashion?
Sounds simple doesn't it?
