It is the same sentiment, at least it struck me that way.

It seems to me that the evidence to support an indictment of anyone is very weak. The NYT columnist is exaggerating and its easy to see that it is so much wishful thinking on his part.It could also be that Russert is lying to protect his source which may in fact be Joseph Wilson himself. Why do we assume that Russert is telling the truth and Libby is not. There is nothing here to indict anyone. It is all he said she said with no proof one way or the other as to who is telling the truth.

Yours: Who in the CIA referred this to the Justice Dept to begin with?

This is perhaps the most interesting question that can be asked in this whole mess. One might guess that its one of thew Ivy League Liberals who inhabit the halls of Christians In Action. This theory assumnes that some in the CIA are opposed to the Presidents initiatives and policies after 9/11. Note that the purpose of Wilson's trip was to destroy the Presidents defense of our country, and even better , who sent Wilson? If he was sent , why was there no written report?

Its no wonder that President Bush replaced the CIA head, they should clean house over there or you could call it MIA = Missing in Action or even, gasp, Muslims in Action!

Since when did federal employees disobey the President and get away with it ? A lot of heads need to roll, over in
Langley, and the sooner the better.

"it would really be a stretch to indict Rove or Libby for outting Plame as an undercover agent when they thought she had a plain old "desk" job here in the U.S."

Exactly. But remember there was that memo circulated by the State Dept that said Plame was covert and warned that the information was secret? Call me paranoid, but I can see Powell's people sending that one up--especially after this nutjob Wilkerson's outburst on Wednesday. That suggests the VP's people knew Plame was undercover, and that the WINPAC story was a red herring to convince the press to publish.

Man, the aspens are turning big time.

"The former (Bush official who is an "ex"). No way could it be a Clintonista and be referred to as "a former administration official" who is giving out info as to what Karl Rove supposedly said to others inside the White House."

Oh yeah? What about "former Capitol Hill staffer" Libby? The press can describe anybody any way they want to.

That is easy for all of us to remember because we know that these charges are trumped up.

But for Joe Six-pack an indictment of senior WH advisors looks as bad as it sounds. I don;t like it anymore than you do, but an indictment is bad news either way.

I missed that part... Geeze, this damned story is full of twists and turns. When was that memo "circulated" by the State Dept? It's so sickening that the State Dept and CIA are full of traitors and commies.

Maybe I'm a Pollyanna, but I'm hoping the Able Danger story sees the light of day and grows more legs. Time to fight back BIG TIME!!!!!

Yeah and I so trust the ny slimes for an hoenst take of how Republicans should be dealing with legal issues. The same peopel who had a writer who made up stories from Iraq. The same paper right at the front of the line with the barnes/burkett rather-gate forged documents a couple weeks before the election. The same paper that's lost 52% of it's profits this year from last year. I believe what they say about as much as some fortune teller palm reader with a dirty little shack in a bad part of town. On second thought, I actually would believe that old lady MORE than I would believe the ny slimes.

Libby was Marc Rich's attorney when Clinton pardoned him. He lost most of my sympathy.

Bull... I wouldn't be surprised though, if we see something similar to what happened with Ken Starr - if he believes that something wrong was done and can't nail someone on it, the investigation may morph into nailing that person for something else. Starr couldn't get Clinton for Whitewater, Travelgate or the FBI files, but he was able to get him on relatively unrelated perjury over an affair. I wouldn't be surprised if no indictments of Rove, Libby, or anyone else came out of the release of Plame's name, but indictments did come down against Rove and Libby on perjury or obstruction...+

Howlin - please see post 583.

Condor - We certainly can assume that it is an enemy of the President Bush administration. But how is it that the CIA can remain shrouded when requesting the DOJ to begin inquiries such as this one?

Indeed the President should spend the next couple of years cleaning out the Agency for the country's sake. Sure, it will be called McCarthy-ism by some but it's time for the administration to stop with the school playground rules.

I posted the info on the forgeries, including info about the break-in here (#105) and my thoughts. I will see if I can find more info for you specifically on the break-in.

" When was that memo "circulated" by the State Dept?"

Found it--June 10, 2003. Here's the link: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/07/20/AR2005072002517_pf.html

The memo was drafted by the State Dept's "Bureau of Intelligence and Research"--if that doesn't sound like a kissing cousin of the CIA, I don't know what does. Beware the bureaucracy, son, they have long tentacles, and they fight dirty.

Lighten up, jv. My point was that the press will print anything they want to. And you can't tell me you're not irritated as hell with Scooter for his Keystone Kops antics.

(To paraphrase Lincoln about Grant: "Find out what flavor of Kool-Aid he's drinking and send a carton to all of my other generals!)
