Where can I find a brief summary on the exact points of this Plame case?

It is such a tangled mess. An unbiased opinion would be great - Thanks

Good luck. I don't think even Fitzgerald could summarize it.

OK, I was worried I was the only one having a hard time putting it all together.

Her husband lied
A member of the media went to the administration and mentioned that his wife was a CIA agent
A different member of the media noted a comment claiming that she was a CIA agent
A special prosecutor was called for to investigate the latter
The witch hunt yielded nothing
but perhaps...perhaps, a case can be made that someone who forgot a conversation of two years ago intentionally failed to remember it.

Got it?

Here's the problem.

Grand jury testimony is supposed to be secret.

Therefore, any revealation of what is going on in the grand jury has to be from an anonymous source or else they're going to jail.

However, you cannot tell a real anonymous source with actual information from a bogus anonymous source that the reporter made up. So you have no idea if the latest article based on an anonymous source is factual or pure BS.

So we're all just speculating.

Read the latest copy of The Weekly Standard Magazine, which has an article about it. www.weeklystandard.com

Why hasn't Novak been summoned to testify?

Why hasn't Novak been summoned to testify?

I believe he has.

But he can't write about it until after the grand jury is done.

Well why isn't there all of the rabid speculation about Novak testimony in the media as there is about Rove and Libby?

I think this Stephen Hayes Weekly Standard article wraps things up quite nicely:

With the CIA constantly being on the wrong side of the facts Valerie began to worry that hher job was in jeopardy. So she found a rich diplomat (Joe Wilson) to support her. Joe then made her cover useless by marrying her so she got a paper pushing job at Langley. In retaliation for cutbacks at the CIA They sent Wilson on a foreign mnission which he screwed up as planned. Then they planted a company phone directory in Novak's office. When Novak found that valerie had been an agent they sprung the trap blaming it on Rove. The rest is history (cia-style).

I guess because Novak hasn't given them the chance to exploit his testimony.

Grand jury testimony is supposed to be secret.

The general rule is that a witness is free to publicly recount what he told the grand jury. THe secrecy obligation attaches to the jurors, DA, and others who hear the testimony in the jury room.

This Victoria Toensing analysis in Human Events Online pretty much sums it up. And, this is the woman who authored the law that was supposedly broken regarding "outing" a CIA "agent". It's worth a read.

It did have a distinguishable point though, you gotta admit... Maybe a big moose steamer would have been better?
