There is an old saying, "Prior planning prevents poor performance." In the real world, it may not prevent poor performance, but it will reduce it significantly.

This portfolio is one that requires almost daily observation and would be a poor performer in the current market, IMO.

Stein's stock portfolio is unnecessarily complicated. If you want to use ETFs just by Vanguard's VIPER (VTI). VTI tracks the Wilshire 5000. It gives you the large caps (S&P500), large cap value (DOW 30), and the small caps all in one fund and, more importantly, all in the exact weighting of total the market. It is fully diversified, lowest cost and requires no unnecessary decision making as to weighting. In a word, it is a no brainer!

Why is he scratching his left ear by his right hand from behing his head? One could go into total market index fund, instead of trying to assemble it oneself piecemeal from large and small [and medium] company sectors. It is simpler, at the very least.
