I agree that NO was just a big screwup on the part of a bunch of people that didn't quite know what they were doing + really bad circumstances. My point was that lots of blacks didn't think that, which seems to me to be a pretty big cultural riff.

SO? Every day we are confronted with "Black pride" and "Gay pride". I even saw a commercial touting WalMart's own "Voices of Color" festival, which they are pumping millions to support. WalMart is also firing law firms that have "too many" white partners. So forgive me if I am not shocked or offended by "Prussian Blue".

One of Sugg's songs is a fantasy piece about a possible future racial war that goes: "Let the cities burn, let the streets run red, if you ain't white you'll be dead."

The difference is that whites saying this are reviled. Blacks who say this are showered with Grammies and MTV Awards.

Well, again, it's easier to color code. None of the black guys I know think that (and some of them really hate the administration), but then again, I try to choose my friends carefully.

There's a difference between affirmative action, "gay pride," and "white pride." Affirmative action tries to give opportunities and celebrate black contributions, though it may infantalize the group it tries to help. The gays I know who are into "gay pride" are not "gay supremacists."

"White Pride" carries with it the Nazi Holocaust and the KKK.

There is no comparison between affirmative action and white supremacy. It is ridiculous to try to equate the two.

Either you condemn racism or you don't.

That's right, John D, because this is a binary subject. You are either a zero or a one. There is no .5 as a choice. Like Petronski rightfully stated, you condemn racism, or you don't. I view these girls' parents like I do Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Malik Zulu Shabazz. And that's with measureable, utter, and unmistakeable contempt.

There are NO excuses.

Free speech means the government can't regulate your speech. It doesn't mean that all decent people in the world shouldn't condemn their racisim.

Secondly, free speech only applies to speech of value. Low-value speech is not covered by the First Amendment. Fighting words are not considered protected content - and if there is anything that is more offensive than Nazi propaganda, I don't know what it is.

Me too. Glad I'm free to say: Wow, this sucks. Hope these girls really grow up someday and start thinking about making amends for what they've wrought. Same for the parents. There's just no excuse.

The two positions are not inconsistent.
