Giuliani Tops List of U.S. Presidential Hopefuls

Many adults in the United States believe Republican Rudy Giuliani should launch a White House bid, according to a poll by the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion. 54 per cent of respondents would like the former New York City major to run for president in 2008.

Republican Arizona senator John McCain is second on the list of prospective candidates with 52 per cent, followed by Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton with 48 per cent, and former North Carolina senator and 2004 Democratic vice-presidential nominee John Edwards with 47 per cent.

Less than 40 per cent of respondents support bids by Massachusetts senator and 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, and U.S. state secretary Condoleezza Rice.

Giuliani garnered national and international attention in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The former New York City mayor currently heads Giuliani Partners, LLC—a consulting firm.

In an Oct. 5 speech to business leaders, Giuliani opened the door for a possible White House bid, saying, "I think I’ll return to politics."

I agree with you on the moral character aspect. His personal life is a mess. Power is intoxicating to some and they can't turn down the perks - Giuliani is one of them. I will not vote for him either. It's also another reason why he is a MAJOR SOCIAL LIBERAL. Fiscally he's alright but our social mores would again, as you say, take a nose dive.

What an ignorant statement. Look at the voting record. McCain is not the same as Hillary. He is much more to the right and things would not be the same under both. McCain talks like a RINO around the media but when it comes time to vote, he is undeniably right of center.

No, he's telling the truth. It doesn't make a difference for him. That's unfortunately true for a lot of "conservatives" around here. For them, the only thing that matters is whether or not someone is pro-life. They'd vote communist as long as they thought abortion would be illegal.

I actually agree with you. If Rudy runs on the same RINO-moderate milquetoast Rockefeller Republicanism that he ran on as mayor, then he wouldn't get past the Iowa caucauses.

Rudy Giuliani would not endorse Pataki in 94 because Pataki was too conservative.Giuliani is a non starter.

I'm not so sure many on this board would agree. When your main form of entertainment is ranting about the horrible state of the country, the terminally disgruntled are happiest when our party is not in power.

Yeah im starting to realize that. One thing i dont understand, why dont those who support Condi get attacked by the anti-abortion crowd? She is a pro-choice libertarian but you dont hear these people blowing up when her name is mentioned like they do when you say McCain.

I agree with your line of thought. Rudy is better than Hillary any day. If the people that are against Rudy don't turn out. Guess who the next president is.

I wish once and for all we could get abortion to the states and be done with it. I am sick of it being the be all and end all on both sides.

Of course, there are many who will not rest even then.
