Hermie Sadler to Drive #66 Peak Performance Ford Taurus in Nextel Cup Subway 500
MARTINSVILLE - Former Attorney General and Republican gubernatorial nominee Jerry Kilgore will sponsor the "Kilgore for Governor" car at Martinsville Speedway's Nextel Cup Subway 500 Sunday as Virginia native Hermie Sadler will drive the Number 66 Ford Taurus powered by Roush-Yates racing. The Kilgore campaign logo has been featured on two other Nextel Cup cars this season, but this will mark the first time Kilgore's campaign has been the primary sponsor of a car. This is believed to be the first time a statewide candidate has ever been the primary sponsor of a Nextel Cup car. The Subway 500 begins at 1:00 p.m.
"Some of the best memories of growing up in Southwest Virginia are of listening to the NASCAR races on the radio with my father," Kilgore said. "I know the fans of NASCAR in Virginia, because I'm one of them. I share their values and I share their beliefs."
"It is truly an honor for me to partner with and support Jerry Kilgore in his bid to become the next Governor of Virginia," Sadler said. "I have known Jerry for several years, and I know he will lead Virginia in the right direction. I look forward to helping spread his message to Virginians between now and November 8."
Sadler will wear a Kilgore for Governor driver's suit during the Subway 500 and members of his pit crew will wear Kilgore apparel throughout the weekend's race activities.
"I want to thank Hermie for making this a reality," Kilgore said. "In campaigns we all know about radio, TV and direct mail. And we call those 'vehicles' for getting a message out. Well, the Kilgore Car is literally another vehicle to use in getting our message of honest reform out to the people of Virginia."
A native of Emporia, Virginia, Hermie Sadler began racing go-karts as a child and was named the 1993 Busch Series Rookie of the Year. He has run in eleven Nextel Cup races this season and has earned $879,698. He and his wife, Angie, have three daughters and live in Emporia. Hermie is the older brother of Elliott Sadler, driver of the Number 38 Robert Yates M & M's Ford.
Do you mean it DID run?
I liked how it just stopped in front of the grandstand on a restart and sat there for awhile. Good move. ;-)
I didn't know that. How'd Hermie Sadler do?

Oh well, Kilgore still has the vote of the typical racing fan anyway.
My first race was at Martinsville with my son about six or seven years ago. We got tickets in the fourth turn. Our seat mates told us it was called "Chicken Bone Alley" and we found out why. There was a concrete structure that kind of blocked our view. I see that is gone now.
Please add me to the ping list.
"Please add me to the ping list."
What ping list?
That pi........never nind!
But I thought the Whig party said THEY were the ones who appealed to the NASCAR fans.
