Dallas Police Deny Positions To Former New Orleans Officers
NBC 5 Dallas ^ | October 25, 2005 | NBC 5

DALLAS -- The Dallas Police Department's search for a few good men and women continues, but the department is also turning down several candidates who moved to North Texas in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Background investigations revealed some of the candidates deserted their posts and evacuated New Orleans when they were needed most.

Deputy Chief Floyd Simpson said those are not the kind of officers that the city of Dallas is looking for.

"In law enforcement, in the military, deserting your post is considered, well, it's not a good thing," said Simpson.

The Dallas Police Department insists all new recruits are rigorously screened.

Maybe brand-new Dallas resident Ray Nagin can hire them as a private security detail.

Just as well. They would have been disappointed to learn that the Dallas PD doesn't include trips to Las Vegas as a fringe benefit...

An interesting insight was just told to me by someone who spent some time in a hotel in Al. shared with a buch of NOLA evacuees.

According to a 9th ward resident, the Columbian cartels came into N.O. in the 90's and killed off all the local drug dealers and replaced them with their own locals. There was a cop element that was included in this arrangment and thus the continued legacy of LEO corruption in the city.

Can't Dallas at least put a few of the imaginary NOPD officers on the payroll? Mayor Nagin will pick up their paychecks for them.

You've only touched the tip of the ice berg. Even worse (OH HORRORS!!) Dallas doesn't let its police loot Cadillac dealerships to provide themselves with appropriate transportation. CALL THE ACLU NOW TO STOP THIS INJUSTICE!!

Hope DPD doesn't figure out I've been gone for 11 years. They think I'm still on foot patrol in Oak Cliff someplace.

And does Dallas really need "police" form a force that is little more than an urban gang?

Good! Those jerks should never again be employed with any law enforcement agency.
