HOLMDEL, N.J. -- The head coach of the Holmdel High School football team, Joe O'Connor, has resigned along with all nine assistant coaches over what O'Connor says was an undermining of his authority by the school administration.
O'Connor quit Monday, saying the administration had reinstated a player after the coach made him leave the team over discipline problems. On Wednesday, nine assistant coaches decided to resign from the team as well in a show of solidarity with O'Connor.

I can't believe how backwards this seems - teachers and coaches are getting in trouble for actually disciplining children who misbehave. Parents undermine teacher's authority - and it only hurts the children, as it doesn't allow them to see what it's like in the real world.
When this child gets fired from a job as an adult, are his parents going to complain to the former boss and get anywhere? Highly unlikely.
Is this kid a superstar player or something?

No doubt. I admire resigning for principle, but when eight or nine guys come with you, that's impressive indeed. Coach must be a fine man.

That part of NJ is well known for outstanding players. The backup would also be a whiz.

Ha, they are playing my old high school tonight. They will be crushed. My niece teaches in the Holmdel district. They had another controversy just a few weeks ago.
Nine ass't coaches? I know of some good college football programs that don't have nine ass't coaches ... and this is a H.S. team?!

This is when the fired employee goes home, grabs a 9mm, returns to the job, and starts firing away.
If my son played on that team he wouldn't be suiting up for any more games until the REAL coaches returned.
