Fallout Expected Over Cager's Choice to Live as Lesbian
Agape Press ^ | 10/27/05 | Allie Martin

(AgapePress) - A former homosexual says the recent announcement by WNBA star Sheryl Swoopes that she has chosen to live as a lesbian will bring wrath from homosexual activists.

Recently the Houston Comets forward told ESPN The Magazine that she wanted to be honest and open up about being a lesbian. However, Swoopes said she was not born a lesbian, and did not get divorced in 1999 because of sexual orientation.

"Do you think I was born this way? No," she told Associated Press. "And that's probably confusing to some, because I know a lot of people believe that you are."

Swoopes' "coming out" may cause more than just confusion, according to Stephen Bennett, a former homosexual who runs a ministry that helps those who want to leave the homosexual lifestyle. He says homosexual activists will blast the basketball player.

"With her using that word that she has chosen the lifestyle, I'm telling you it's going to be like whacking a hornets' nest," says Bennett. "The bees [sic] are going to come out and just literally try to sting this lady for saying that."

The ministry leader sees some positives coming out of the cager's proclamation. "The truth is starting to come out," he says, "and I think the more that we get people who are really open and honest about this, the straight talk about homosexuality is going to come through."

Bennett and his wife are about to launch a daily radio talk-show dealing with the issue of the homosexual agenda. "Believe me," he says, "we'll be dealing with all stories like this." The name of the program is "Straight Talk Radio."

Swoopes, 34, has an 8-year-old son. The five-time All-Star was honored in September as the WNBA's Most Valuable Player for the third time in her professional career.

Your question reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Jerry is trying to explain to Elaine that they never change teams 'you only have access to the equipment 20% of the time - they have access to it all the time"

Say it ain't so, you liberals. You mean one can choose one's sexual orientation and biology has nothing to do with it. Shocking news!

And yet you found time to click the article and post. If you didn't care, you wouldn't be here.

LOL! Not what I meant -- poor choice of words on my part. It's true that I don't give a rat's ass about Sheryl Swopes coming out as a lesbian (which is not a surprise, anyway).

What I don't have time in my schedule for, is the wishful thinking on the part of the author that the homosexual lobby will be pissed about this. They won't be: they understand that any publicity like this is good publicity for them.

Still can't get over the shock of a WNBA player being a lesbian!

Next thing they'll tell us is that there are lessies in the WPGA and women's tennis.

Over the years, I've known quite a few homosexuals, both male and female. I would guess that about 1/3 of the men and maybe 1/4 of the women had a strong sense of always having been homosexual, the rest were in varying degrees either the victims of seduction or abuse by other (usually older) homosexuals at a vulnerable time in their lives, or in other cases 'opportunistic' or 'lifestyle' homosexuals. Opportunistic homosexuals are those who sort of fall into it as adults (or late adolescents) as a result of either experimentation with friends (perhaps after a bad relationship or with the typical stirrings of the erotic as kids) and then often (men especially) feel 'stuck' with it. Lifestyle homosexuals is the term I'd use for those, and I've known a few, attracted to the fast hedonistic (well, truly debauched) gay 'scenes'.

So, based on my own anecdotal experience, I'd say there are both "born that way" gays (leaving aside the question of whether it's a result of nature or nurture) and those who are not. The latter, IMHO, greatly outnumber the former. If homosexuality were truly genetic, given that most homosexuals reproduce less than heterosexuals, you would expect to see their number diminish over time. Only way to get new ones, if they're not breeding, is recruitment.

Ok. Sorry if I sounded snippy. :(

And you're right: all that matters is that there's another member on the team; it doesn't matter if she was a late round draft pick.

So far I have not heard any backlash from the Homosexual Lobby. Maybe they hope to sweep it under the rug.

The gay community hates bi-sexuals for the same reason. It counters their arguement that people have a choice.

"He says homosexual activists will blast the basketball player."

They will definitely try to get their licks in ... so to speak.

"I give up - why did they use the '[sic]' here?"

Because bees don't usually come out of hornets' nests, perhaps?

Once again, if you do not parrot the liberal line, they will attack you... especially if you are a member of one of "their" protected groups. Can't have any diversity of opinion on that side of the fence.

Yes, of course.

Thank you for your post. I had wanted to say something similar, but felt sheepish and petty about it....didn't want to be the grammar police and all...but the use of the word "literally" when they don't mean "literally" really gets on my nerves...

Bennett needs to be sued for contributing to the demise of the word "literally."

William F. Buckley would be proud of you! As am I.

Do you think we could make any progress with an effort to make people use the words "lie" and "lay" correctly?

I'm not upset. She wasn't on my wish list anyway. But she does give Ville Niemenen a serious challenge for having the largest head in sports.
