Whither the Bush administration? Two months ago, just before Katrina hit New Orleans, the administration had a game plan that it seemed to be, more or less successfully, executing. Since then that plan has been blown away by hurricanes meteorological, political and, yesterday, legal. In late August, Congress seemed primed to extend the earlier Bush tax cuts. House Ways and Means Chairman Bill Thomas seemed ready to push some form of Social Security reform through his committee and the House. John Roberts seemed headed for easy confirmation to Sandra Day O'Connor's seat on the Supreme Court. Iraq, at least in the minds of administration officials, was moving in the right direction, with new Iraqi security forces coming online and the constitution heading for approval in the election scheduled for Oct. 15.

Get over it already!
There is a very long list of those that have under estimated GWB. Want to join?
Add 5) Dems go from outhouse into the privy pit, covered in their own kaka.
Get over it already!
How about; close the damn borders, quit cowering from dems, learn to use the veto, open up domestic oil exploration.
We're waiting .....
If gas prices keep going down he'll be fine - strangely the thing he probably has the least control over would cause his popularity to either surge or decline.
Newt called Joey Wilson a LIAR tonight on H & C.
My prayers have been answered.
Now I want to see that little worm taken down so far that nobody will even remember him.
It's time for GW to take off the gloves! No more Mr. Nice Guy!
Joey Wilson a LIAR
I hear a lot people calling him that within the last week.
I've been bitching about W for months now, but I think you could be correct. If this week didn't slap W and crew back into reality nothing will. Knowing his history, I do think he'll come back fighting with a vengance. He's a good decent man who I think we'll be very proud of by the end of his term.
The other day on Hardball, Victoria Toensing called him an idiot; something like, "Cheney probably said 'Who sent this idiot to Niger'."
I want to see that SOB drawn and quartered.
No the truth doesn't hurt at all but, get over it already!
I'll race you...
He has to say plainly and repeatedly, enough is enough. From now on I want him to be a brawler and a street fighter.Use the power of his office to call out these Leftist pukes who torment us all.
I emailed Bush--"You offered the Left an olive branch and they turned and spit in your face , and when they spit in your face they are spitting in mine also. Attack, Blitz them. Avenge your wronged constituency and we will go through hell for you."
I'm closer to him.
Damn.
Whatever, Newbie.
And I know where he lives. :-)
Ok. I'll drive over. Then we'll leave from your house with the pitch forks, tar and feathers.
"Hell hath no fury like two mean old FReeper broads!"
Hadean's predictions for the end of next week:
1)Fitzgerald will eventually threaten to tie himself to the WH fence for attention.
2)Miers will be a one line mention at the end MSM articles after the new SCOTUS nominee is announced.
3)Sheehan will be arrested again and no one will care.
4)Howard Dean will say something really stupid.
5)A liberal will threaten to move to Canada.
Heh.
Misunderestimated. Yet again... and always. Get used to it.
I have never encountered Umgud before this thread.
If Umgud was "banned" last night, then why does he/she appear on this thread? Who banned him/her? And, what does that mean?
I am so new to Free Republic that I really have not yet earned friends or enemies. That will come in time, I am sure. There is real potential, for example, to make an enemy or two on this very thread.
Cheers! caryatid
You're waiting?
Fighting the good fight against the muslim horde notwithstanding...
In what ways is GWB less conservative than Reagan?
Don't get me wrong... I don't question Ronnie's conservatism. But all things happen in the universe of the possible, in the priorities of the times.
The borders have been the problem they are... for how many presidents now? [since Washington?] Congress has been in deficit spending mode for how many presidents? [Since Roosevelt's New Deal?] Sure... there's some things that need fixed. But they aren't new things.
The new things, and frankly, the priorities of the moment, are presented by the very real barbarians at the gate. There is a muslim horde out there that really sincerely wants us dead. This President, and thankfully him and not the last couple of contenders... has faced that enemy and taken action. The right action.
It's 5 years over due.
Who knows ... it's very late here and I may have picked up the name from another post on my ping list.
Whoever umgud is ... he probably feels about as welcome on this thread as I do.
G'night, All
This Fritz hack should be the last straw.
From Libby's testimony
From Libby's testimony.
"I want I didn't want to I didn't know if it was true and I didn't want people I didn't want the reporters to think it was true because I said it. I all I had was that reporters are telling us that, and by that I wanted them to understand it wasn't coming from me and that it might not be true. Reporters write things that aren't true sometimes, or get things that aren't true. So I wanted to be clear they didn't, they didn't think it was me saying it. I didn't know it was true and I wanted them to understand that. Also, it was important to me to let them know that because what I was telling them was that I don't know Mr. Wilson. We didn't ask for his mission. That I didn't see his report."
"Basically, we didn't know anything about him until this stuff came out in June. And among the other things, I didn't know he had a wife. That was one of the things I said to Mr. Cooper. I don't know if he's married. And so I wanted to be very clear about all this stuff that I didn't, I didn't know about him. And the only thing I had, I thought at the time, was what reporters are telling us."
What Libby is saying is that he lied to reporters. He never says he didn't know Valaries status. He simply says that reporters were reporting this. Russert now lies and claims he didn't say this to Libby but that is simply his word against Libby. Read this Libby seems to be going out of his way to make clear that he did not take responsibility himself for this claim. Rather he attributed it to Russet. Fitz is so partisan though that he twist the denial into Libby denying knowledge rather than Libby denying this to other reporters.
This is a real partisan hack job. The G Wimp Bush had better grow some b@ll& and veto this spending bill until the cut's come about. He must demand that similar crimes by DemocRATS be prosecuted to the furtherest extent of the law. This would be the end of McDermmot, Hillary, Bill, Kerry, Dean and many other DemocRATS. He must demand that Able Danger be made fully public. Otherwise he might as well kiss his @&& goodbye as the DemocRATS will continue to pick us off one by one. How many do we lose to false charges before we learn?????.
FRegards. ;o)
You know... I was with you until this tirade came outta nowhere.
G Wimp Bush? Yah know... President Bush might be accused of many things, but wimpiness is simply not among them from either side.
Cheers!
caryatid
The great danger of this situation is that I fear Libby was indicted in an effort to get him to "turn" ... and it is Dick Cheney they are really after ...
There can be no doubt that the intent is to bring down this administration. That is a lot more serious than who may or may not have been banned last night from Free Republic.
But this can wait for another day. This old soldier is off to my foxhole.
G'night.
Just how many vetoes has he signed?
0. Nada. Need I say more. His Father (Great Wimp, no new taxes) is best buddies with Clinton. Sometimes the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree.
Don't get me wrong he is far better than Gore, Kerry or McInsane. But he is a Wimp and scarred to go after his enemies even when they are destroying his administration. Scared to nominate Pro-Life Judges as he promised. Why no indictments against the Clintons or even an investigation over them or the damage they left at the White House (no W's on Computer keyboards and porn mixed into the paper on printers and copiers, stolen items). Because he is a Wimp and scared to offend the DemocRATS.
I'm sorry your boy Kerry lost. Get over it.
You mean that J F$#%$ Kerry I said should be indicted for actually outing a CIA operative.
Surly you do not believe the Miers nomination was correct. Even the Robberts nomination is highly suspect. Were they in the mold of Thomass and Rehinquist. I think not.
OK... my comment was unfair... but jeez... you're even drunker than I am. :-)
You're complaining about a whole bunch of irrelevant stuff. G'nite now....
Failure is part of the human experience...
Bush is getting a boat load of experience...
Miers Was a BUSH FAILURE....
Deal with it...
Here are a few others: Steel Protection, Failed Borders, Campaign Finance, Medicare Drug Crap, Spending Sprees, Affirmative Action, Inactive Posture on 2'nd Ammendment...etc etc etc etc etc...
He aint the Golden Boy I thought he was or you think he is...
Time to start thinking about the Union and its Borders, Language and Culture; time to start thinnking a little less about politics, politicians and political parties...
I too have written such e-mails in my head. The problem is not really that George Bush would not read them but that he would not heed them. The problem with George Bush is that he is not primarily a conservative, he is primarily a Christian, and he does not have a calculus and that is congruent with yours or mine, even though both of us might be Christians.
George Bush sees partisan politics as petty and ultimately meaningless. We see partisanship as the indispensable stuff of freedom. At election time the Bushes will hold their nose and dip into partisanship. But it is not in their essential nature to wage war for tactical political advantage.
George Bush wants what Bill Clinton wanted: To fashion a legacy. He does not want to be remembered as the man who cut a few percentage points from an appropriation bill but as the man who reshaped Social Security. He wants, above all to be the man who did his Christian duty. I've come to the conclusion that the Bushes see politics as squirmy, fetid. It must be indulged in if one is to practice statesmanship but it is statesmanship alone that that is worthy as a calling.
They are honest, they are loyal, they are patrician. They would've been admired and respected if had lived among the founding fathers. But it is Laura Bush and Momma Bush who really and truly speak for the family and who tell us what they are thinking and who they are. There's not a Bush woman who does not believe in abortion. They believe in family, they live in loyalty, they believe in the tribe, but they do not believe in partisan politics.
I believe it is time for us to decide no longer to be used by the Bush family as useful idiots and instead to begin to use the Bushes as our useful idiots. I say this with the utmost admiration and respect for everything the Bushes stand for. Who would not be proud beyond description to have a father or an uncle who was among the youngest of naval aviators to fight in the Pacific and to be twice shot down? Not a stain or blemish of corruption or personal peccadillo has touched the family(except for the brother whom I believe was cleared of bank charges). They are the living embodiment of all that is good and noble in the American tradition.
But they are not conservative
Yeah. Right. Dream on Mikey. Guess they all have missed the fact he is President until Jan 2009. So keep dreaming Bush is "Down".
Welcome to Free Republic. So which one do you work for? DNC? Moveon.org? Answer?
Right, that is why the Assaults weapon ban was ended. Gee sorry you cannot dictate that Bush only do 100% what YOU want. Sorry, there are not enough of the 100%ers to elect a Dog Catcher, much less a President. So either learn to deal with the reality that you are only one small part of coalition or go third party. Cause the Conservative Base is NOT real interested in joining the 100%ers in their quest for Political irrelevance.
This administration has a wonderful opportunity to scrap the present tax code and push for a simple federal sales tax. Also, this is the time to push for total control of
the borders. This would energize "The Base" and respond to
voters' basic concerns.
