Julian Phillips Getting in Fox Swing of Things? Criticizes Dems' Failure to Offer Solutions

Readers of my entries here and at Free Republic know that over the months I've enjoyed skewering Julian when he has let his liberal slip show. But this morning, Julian sang a very different song.

The context was a report that Bill Clinton yesterday urged his fellow Democrats to speak out bluntly on controversial issues, from abortion to religion.

Phillips had this to say:

"You can speak up and be tough but the question is, do you have any different solutions? And I think that's the thing with the Democrats at this time. They have to come up with some alternatives and I don't see that they have actually come up with anything yet." [emphasis added]

Huh! Couldn't have said it better myself!

I would say the Dem slip is still showing..

Julian's concern is for the Dems to retake power in '06 and '08...
He simply understands what needs to be done..
Complaining about the republicans will not win votes..
Providing solutions will..

Phillips is annoying just about anytime he opens his mouth.

Perhaps you're right, although a true Kool-Aid drinking Dem might have said "but the Dems are offering lots of great solutions!" etc.

I'm going to give Julian some credit for this, and will certainly be watching to see if this is a trend.

Now that Mike and Juliet are gone from F&F Weekend, perhaps Julian feels more of an obligation to carry the 'fair & balanced' water.

I find Alisyn Camerota a generally welcome replacement at F&F Weekend, though she did whine yesterday about 'gouging' by the oil companies.

Nah. He wants to be back in the spotlight, and knows that will be through having solutions, but they will be a spiined version of pub solutions.

But that's a Catch 22. They can't be honest about their solutions because all of them involve raising taxes and expanding federal spending and regulations. Or in the case of the War on Terror -- bringing the troops home from Iraq.

Not winning issues.

Well, the Democrats have presented no new ideas since the "New Deal." What was that? Seventy years ago?

When you consider the fact that the New Deal was really the enactment of the Bull Moose Party platform, you may reasonably argue that the Democrats have never had a new idea since Thomas Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark over the Bitterroots.

The Dems have their "solutions" and know they are unpalatable to the public..

What they are presently trying to do is create the perception of problems their solutions can address in a desirable light..

I.e., "We have some solutions but the public won't buy them.. "
"OK, how can we create a set of problems that will make our solutions look better"??

Then a little later, while chatting with Claudia Rosett about the oil-for-food scandal, Julian admitted that he used to think there wasn't much too it, but is changing his mind.

I don't know where he's been but, yes, he might be catching on a little bit.

You should have heard him yesterday....I almost gagged myself and cancelled Fox News....Anyways, who do you think scheduled Conyers to lead off yesterday? And that jibber mouth that replaced Juliet is ANNOYING....

And the answer seems to be a constant 'no'.

Even in the 04 election cycle, Kerry kept saying 'I have a plan...' but he failed reveal any of the many 'plans' he touted during his run for the White House.

After her Senate re-election, however, look for the Hillary machine to be pumping out extended plan after plan on every major issue. She is no John Kerry. She will certainly bring more to the 08 White House run than empty 'I have a plan...' rhetoric and an embarrassing 'do nothing' Senate career. She has already forced politicians to schedule debates on the Illegals issue next year. Like it or not, she will be the navigator behind driving the issues for National debate, because none of the GOP potentials for 08 have the kind of influence and political power hClinton has.

Scary, isn't it. And it should be.
