George W. Bush's administration has come through what many have been saying would be its worst week, and it has turned out to be -- well, if not one of the best, then one that is far more encouraging than most of the mainstream media expected.
Four events, or non-events, have put the administration in a position to make progress and advance the standing of the president and his party in public policy and in the public opinion polls.

Yes. I agree with him. Only MSM spins that would define last week as "the worst week in Bush presidency"...

Excellent article by Barone. I am really coming to respect the guy a lot. He is not a hack and tells it how it is.
To: paudio
I look at it as a hopeful week.
I like Barone, he is clearheaded and never displays partisan inclinations in his assessments.

Yes. I agree with him. Only MSM spins that would define last week as "the worst week in Bush presidency"...Only a true connoisseur of MSM Barf would know that every week of the Bush presidency has the "The Worst", paudio.
Yet, week after week, the Bush Presidency remains solidly afloat. While the Left sink slowwwwwwwwly into the West.
Jack.

Also, in economic news, we posted eight consecutive quarters of economic growth. This is the longest growth period in history. In addition black unemployment fell to its lowest point in ten years.

Page the NYT's.
Barone gets it. They clearly do not.
Last week was the best for Bush in awhile, with potential to mark the strong turnaround in the morning with the SC nominee.
To: ClaireSolt
I knew about the black unemployment numbers, but the 8 quarters of growth, WOW!
To: paudio
Much is made of Bush's current low standing in the polls -- though he rates much higher than did Presidents Truman, Nixon and Carter at their low points. There you go, things aren't that bad.
Wait a minute....Nixon and Carter?
The two the Presidents with the worst performance records in office that I can recall.
That's hardly comforting, .....although, on second thought, ..............OK, let's take it.

That, the strong economic growth in the face of those gas prices, is VERY encouraging and economist credit the strength to those tax cuts.
Oh no! this won't fit the pattern the NYT's was looking for!
Now what? Milk the Scooter Libby story FWIW and play up the sorry dem's comments on what Bush should do next. Yeah that's the ticket.

"Also, in economic news, we posted eight consecutive quarters of economic growth. This is the longest growth period in history. I've agreed all week. Bush put some pivotal progress points behind him last week. Build week is tomorrow. Beginning with the extreme right wing constructionist SCOTUS pick.

"I've agreed all week. Bush put some pivotal progress points behind him last week. Build week is tomorrow. Beginning with the extreme right wing constructionist SCOTUS pick."That's later.
First up will be Ambassador Bolton's successful UN Resolution putting international sanctions onto Syria.
That vote is today (Monday).

Every president since 1963 has had approval ratings lower than Bush's current nadir.
*Johnson: 35%
*Nixon: 24%
*Ford: 37%
*Carter: 28%
*Reagan: 35%
*Bush I: 29%
*Clinton: 37%

I haven't agreed with the president on all the issues but I have always supported him and the troops.

Alito makes the last week a solid success for Team Bush.
Kar-r-r-rl is on the job again.
