Schumer gets the poor taste award for saying that Alito would undo the work of Rosa Parks.

Much easier for the Dem's to appose him and his record than JRB

True, but as in another thread, The Senate republicans need to grow a backbone and push and fight like they haven't in the past. We should write our Senators and let them know we are firmly behind them. They need to make a stand and not capitulate to the dems.

They will say that at that time, they didn't know how "radical" he would turn out to be.

Great "reminders" here for some senators.

Pres. Bush should have used those quotes when he introduced Judge Alito. Would have shut them up before they could even begin.

The Radical Left is whining today that the President should have picked a "consensus" nominee, or someone who represented "mainstream" America.

Well, your map clearly shows that mainstream America is clearly not Hollywood, Northeastern Liberals, People for the American Way (a misnomer), ACLU, or any of the other gloom and doom groups opposing a candidate who believes in the Founders' Constitution.

Out there in the "mainstream" of America, this nominee's responses in the hearings will be well received, clearly understood, and will not be seen to be dangerous to their liberty.

"We, the People" are not sheep to be herded by the "drivers" of the mainstream media, Hollywood, and liberal special interests, but citizens to be respected as the "only KEEPERS" of the Constitution, in the words of Justice Joseph Story in his "Commentaries on the Constitution."

Justice Story:
"§ 1907. If these Commentaries shall but inspire in the rising generation a more ardent love of their country, an unquenchable thirst for liberty, and a profound reverence for the constitution and the Union, then they will have accomplished all, that their author ought to desire. Let the American youth never forget, that they possess a noble inheritance, bought by the toils, and sufferings, and blood of their ancestors; and capable, if wisely improved, and faithfully guarded, of transmitting to their latest posterity all the substantial blessings of fife, the peaceful enjoyment of liberty, property, religion, and independence. The structure has been erected by architects of consummate skill and fidelity; its foundations are solid; its compartments are beautiful, as well as useful; its arrangements are full of wisdom and order; and its defences are impregnable from without. It has been reared for immortality, if the work of man may justly aspire to such a title. It may, nevertheless, perish in an hour by the folly, or corruption, or negligence of its only keepers, THE PEOPLE. Republics are created by the virtue, public spirit, and intelligence of the citizens. They fall, when the wise are banished from the public councils, because they dare to be honest, and the profligate are rewarded, because they flatter the people, in order to betray them."

Kennedy used to be a good and respected name. I wonder how many generations it will take before my descendants will not have to say "we aren't related to those Kennedys" whenever they introduce themselves?

4 months ago, Slate Magazine called Alito (and Luttig) a "regulator", not a "hard-liner", like Roberts, Garza, Jones and McConnell.

Link: Front-Runners on Roe - What Bush's short list thinks about abortion

Excerpt:

Samuel Alito

Samuel Alito

The regulators: In 1991, Judge Samuel Alito (U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit) dissented from the lower-court decision—affirmed by the Supreme Court in Casey—that struck down a Pennsylvania law that would have required women to inform their husbands before getting abortions. Alito read the Supreme Court's earlier decisions as holding that an abortion regulation did not pose an undue burden unless it banned abortion, gave another person a veto over a woman's choice, or had the "practical effect of imposing severe limitations." A law that had a "heavy impact on a few women" should be upheld, Alito said.
