Roberts, Alito and Luttig are as luminous as a quasar.
Lame duck my ass.
I was just thinking that. With Brier, Souter, Ginsburg, and Stevens, Kennedy rounds out a basically liberal court.
We need one more.
JRB or Karen Williams for Stevens would make a nice trade.
Can I throw in Janice Rogers Brown for Souter, and go 1-1-7?
Ah, to dream. =^)
Agreed.
She is 72 and suffers from colon cancer, which appears to be in remission at this time.
I certainly wish her no harm, but I would be delighted if she chose to retire.
His mother thinks he's pro life.
To my knowledge, Alito is nowhere on record criticizing Roe V. Wade, nor espousing pro-life views. If such proof exist, I would love to see it.
It little matters what his personal viewpoint is on the issue, however, when he believes that following the rule of law means following unconstitutional precedent.
That's why I dislike such terms as "originalist" and "minimalist" and "strict constructionist".
The only adjective that I need to describe the ideal candidate is "conservative". A true conservative wouldn't hesitate to overturn bad precedent and would always make the correct rulings instinctively, and would strongly defend his position against the other justices.
A conservative has an agenda: Our agenda.
