Literacy is not the Federales' bidness - it is a matter for the states and people. The Dept. of Education, and the cabinet position, should be abolished.

Ditto that, Dahoser! We read to our daughter from the time she was born. She taught herself to read and was reading entire books when she was 4! It takes involved, loving parents to raise a literate child!
