The anti-Miers crowd told everyone that Bush should send up a high-octane conservative to the Senate and damn the gang of 14.

The pro-Miers crowd said that an Alito would be filibustered and the gang would keep such a candidate from getting a vote.

Would anyone on the pro-Miers side be willing to 'fess up and admit that they were wrong?

I supported the President's pick of Miers and I now support his pick of Alito. Miers supporters just wanted to see an up or down vote. I don't see anybody doing anything "wrong" here. We still don't know if the DemocRATS will attempt a filibuster or not. Let's not count our Alito votes until they happen.

Nope!

Miers wasn't my first choice, but I supported her because she was the President's first choice.

I'm very pleased with the Alito nomination, but he wasn't my first choice, either.

Janice Rogers Brown is still my first choice, and I hope the President gets another chance to nominate her.

I already did so ("She Has Spoken. . . And I Was Wrong"). I'm not surprised that the GOP is closing ranks. I am surprised that the Dems weren't more emboldened by their "victory," although they apparently are trying the same tactic on Alito, by floating stories about how he really "isn't conservative" or voted "three out of four times" for Roe. But this guy has "gravitas," and they won't be able to say he isn't competent, heck, spectacular.

Are you kidding!!! You know everyone was in favor of the 3M girls' withdrawal, so someone like Alito could be nominated.

For even thinking any of these people was for Miers, you are sentenced to looking over your nose for eight days.
To one Silly Texan from another.

I was in favor of a hearing and a up or down vote of Miers. I didn't oppose or support her. I was appalled at the smearing of the president and the lady with rude personal insults by some, not the objections to her selection by the president based on her qualifications by others.

I think it worked out better this way, all things considered, the base is motivated and besides, if you keep looking behind you, you'll never see where you're going.

It's time to move on. :)

I was not a supporter of Miers, but willing to consider her and give her an opportunity for an up or down vote. I was also thrilled that she withdrew. I am very happy with Alito.

From all appearances, I was wrong about the gang of 14 and their intentions. BUT there is one caveat—for all we know, without the debacle of the last nomination the gang of 14 would have stood in the way.

The point is, while I am happy to say that my fears turned out to be unfounded, and give credit where credit is due—we will never know what would have happened without the Miers nomination stirring the pot.

I think the most important thing is to say thank you to those who threw the fit. We will be better off in the long run because of what you did. As I have always said, the conservative movement needs us all. The loony right, the RINOs, the Bushbots and the BushBashers. We keep each other, and the movement, honest and on track.

I'm glad that, at the end of the day, most of us are on the same team. And if that makes me completely pollyannaish, well, then so be it.

(I hope that fess-up was good enough, Don'tMessWithTexas. I still don't approve of the personal insults that were thrown about, but that is a discussion for another day.)

Not yet. Lets see what happens when it comes to nut chunching time. These guys don't like the Washington Post and NY Times saying mean things about them.

Then again DeWine saw his son get his butt kicked in a special Congressional election to replace (?) in Ohio. He was favored to win in a 4way race until his father pulled this crap.On election he came in fourth.:)
