Rioting Spreads to 20 Towns Around Paris
By JAMEY KEATEN, Associated Press Writer
Thu Nov 3, 2:55 PM ET

AULNAY-SOUS-BOIS, France - Rampaging youths shot at police and firefighters Thursday after burning car dealerships and public buses and hurling rocks at commuter trains, as eight days of riots over poor conditions in Paris-area housing projects spread to 20 towns.

Youths ignored an appeal for calm from President Jacques Chirac, whose government worked feverishly to fend off a political crisis amid criticism that it has ignored problems in neighborhoods heavily populated by first- and second-generation North African and Muslim immigrants.

French President Jacques Chirac addressing a press conference. The French government was reeling after week of suburban rioting outside Paris spread to other areas around the capital.

Members of French government (right) face mayors of cities on Paris outskirts at the Matignon Hotel in Paris, after the seventh consecutive night of violence on the outskirts of the French capital. [When in doubt, call a meeting.]

My local newscast (Nashville, TN) said this was a result of disgruntled AFRICAN-AMERICAN youth, I kid you not.

The caption accompanying this Reuters graphic blames the government's get-tough policy: "French youths rioted in a Paris suburb for the fifth night running on Tuesday, raising fresh questions about Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy's 'zero tolerance' policy toward the violence."

Agence France Presse (AFP) caption: "A detachment of anti-riot security forces face a group of youths in front of burning cars in Clichy-Sous-Bois. Tough new French anti-crime policies are partly to blame for riots that gripped a Paris suburb...after the accidental deaths of two teenagers who thought they were being chased by police, the opposition and rights campaigners said.

I thought it was over two youths who died while hiding from the police?

Paris is becoming a quagmire.

The insurgants are popular with the people and powerful.

The French should pull out of Paris.

Employees of the "William Cook" restaurant clear debris. A kindergarten, a gymnasium, businesses, government offices, and hundreds of cars have been torched over the past week.

This should be the end of the Chirac government. The French public is not stupid. And the French don't have a history of looking kindly at civil unrest.

Too bad for the MSM, that they can't blame it on a "Right-Wing" government.

Reminds me of Goldberg's CBS book on how the producers demanded a reporter call Jamaican looters "african american" or the story doesn't make it on the air.

And if the Eurocrats will not stop it soon, it will extend to other countries.
