So what are the French doing? Promoting special programs for minorities and "funding mosques". I guess blackmail works well in Europe.

``I will not accept organized gangs making the law in some neighborhoods. I will not accept having crime networks and drug trafficking profiting from disorder,'' Villepin said at the Senate in between emergency meetings called over the riots. You have, you do, and you will.

What the hell do these goons want from the poor widdle frogs. Hell they did their best to fully arm Saddam, did their upmost back in the 70's to make sure his reactor would have been online and then supply very highly enriched fuel rods for him, that where not a part of the agreement. They refused to go to war against him. They have did their best to shield Islam and condeme Judeoism over the years. Boy! The really are ingrates.
Hopefully the French will now go totally beserk and kill huge numbers of them for the world to see. No way the L/MSM will be able to keep it mum.

That is just not going to convince anyone.

The word "insurgent" comes to mind.

This is the result of the extreme religious teaching in their mosques over the past twenty years.
The 2nd generation muslims are Muslims first, and French, 2nd.
This could grow into Arch-Duke Ferdinand assassination implications worldwide if it isn't handled carefully.
At the very least the French will now learn how it is to live in Israel for the rest of their lives.

This will be interesting. The French upper classes tend to be a rather closed group socially and in educational terms. They tend to have a somewhat fixed view of the world, and it only tends to be altered by fairly extreme external stimulus. Reality-o-Grams if you will. This is such an event, and we should expect substancial changes.
This man Sarkozy is thought to have a more realistic view of the banlieues and their residents. He is also thought to be a shoo-in to replace Chirac as President as he is very able and intellegent. Watch him carefully, he might well impress us.

143 arrests 5,000 arrests with a body count in the hundreds will settle things down. Heavy deportation and welfare cut off will then keep the lid on.

Wasn't he the French minister who, several months ago, was advocating giving nuclear technology (as in weapons) to the Palestinians?

Is anyone else struck by the fact that most of this report is old "news" and media spin recycled from the past 8 days of riots, and only the smallest part has to do with what happened tonight. Even that part reads like a government press release.
Are there actual reporters on the scene, or are they holding down barstools in the deuxieme arrondissement, while the suburbs burn?
If there were a decent blog on this, we might learn something about what is happening.
