Regarding your tagline: Formula 1 is a car. I'm sure there's a logical explanation for the other 407 formulae.

Thank you for a well reasoned summary of sentiments. These events seem to be classical case studies in the failures of socialism, and the results of elitism. Hopefully French people will work this out with a minimal loss of life, whichever route they take. I just believe that America ought to sit this one out. And that France should cease criticising America, and American policy.

Give me the award too, then. She's right. There is no link between Islam and this.

After reading your post #73, I stumbled upon this quote. Are you really certain that Islam has no factor in these events? If so, please outline what information has led to this conclusion.

I understand that many of the drug dealers and human traffickers may not be pious Muslims, but you can bet your bottom dollar that if these were Christians or Jews; it would not have been 5 days before any media.

A well thought out analysis of the riots, but...there's a deadly parallel to Palestinians, too. No jobs, low self esteem, bad living conditions, no respect. And Islam gives Palies self respect and a license to kill/maim/bomb. Islam gives these North African immigrant youths the same thing, and the head mullah/president/whacko in Iran is already stirring the pot, demanding that all Muslims in France rise up and set fires, etc.. The Muslim terrorist big boys are watching this closely. They'd love control of France and then all Europe. Given that one can travel throughout the EU without papers, they should be arriving any time now. This is very scary indeed. (The riots in LA in the sixties didn't have the Muslim/Islamofascism/terror war component.)

"I think there is no link between Islam and violence," she added.

The Koran is replete with quotes about violence, and war against infidels -jihad- is a fundamental belief of the Koran. It is written that Christians and Jews are infidels, and the Koran specifically makes a case to engage in Jihad against infidels over and over again. For faithful Muslims who believe in the Koran, we are their enemy - it is a simple as that.

There was an interesting post on FR last night, three essays by an American expatriate, who'a been living in her beloved France for years. She writes a bit for National Review Online. And she'd finally realized it was time to come home to the US, something she was loathe to do. She gives her reasons in great detail -- she is Jewish, and her grandparents barely got out of Europe alive just before WWII. She says Jews in France hide their Jewishness as much as possible for fear of attack. She mentions a Jewish man who's face was carved up, and how the media hushed it up. Anti-Semitism is thriving in France to the point that she finally came back to the US.

Her essays are interesting and well worth the read if you have time and can track them down. Her name is Nidra something, I think. Sorry I don't have the link handy, but it was around one am when I read the post. Mea culpa. However, her essays made me very angry.

Cable tv was on, with the movie, 'Charade', with Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn, set in Paris, her lovely old apartment, peeling, faded paint, lovely bones, parquet floors. The essence of romantic Paris. I was reading about the riots and all I could think of was Nidra sitting at dinner in that lovely old apartment, France beside her, dead, maggots coming out of her.

Why would she wait until the last minute to leave when she had her grandparents' example and the current wave of AntiSemitism...that old Jewish man with the carved up face. However much we all love Paris and the best of France, nothing is worth that. (Just a sidebar.)
