Fuel's paradise? Power source that turns physics on its head
The Guardian ^ | Friday November 4, 2005 | Alok Jha, science correspondent

· Scientist says device disproves quantum theory
· Opponents claim idea is result of wrong maths

It seems too good to be true: a new source of near-limitless power that costs virtually nothing, uses tiny amounts of water as its fuel and produces next to no waste. If that does not sound radical enough, how about this: the principle behind the source turns modern physics on its head.

Randell Mills, a Harvard University medic who also studied electrical engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, claims to have built a prototype power source that generates up to 1,000 times more heat than conventional fuel. Independent scientists claim to have verified the experiments and Dr Mills says that his company, Blacklight Power, has tens of millions of dollars in investment lined up to bring the idea to market. And he claims to be just months away from unveiling his creation.

"And he claims to be just months away from unveiling his creation."

Big oil better hurry up and buy him out just like they did with the 100 mpg carburetor.

And I thought scientific paradigms couldn't be wrong. ;o)

Actually, the whole point of science is that hypotheses, theories and paradigms can be proven wrong - which I'm betting this guy is about to find out. However, if he is right, this would be an amazing development...

And yes, I do understand that you're being flippant. :-)

I know Pacificorp and other US utilities invested in this company in the late 1990s. I wondered then if anything would come of it. Let's see what happens.

I'd like to see it work but I'm a doubting Thomas until I see it validated.

This Blacklight scam pops up year after year. Often featured on FR. If anybody is interested, there are several fairly interesting but hopeless books out about zero-point energy; if your local bookstore carries an astrology section they may have some on the shelves. If not they may special order; or not.

I agree with you. When you have tens of millions of dollars waiting to invest in your project, then something has got to be real here.

I remember the guys that tried to get the scientific community to believe that bacteria caused a substantial percentage of stomach ulcers, they were laughed out of the medical community until they were proven right. I believe these same guys won Nobel prizes this year for their discovery. That's why I'm personally leary about the perception of science's god-like view of the universe.

Randell Mills' hydrogen idea has been kicking around since 1989 ( http://www.cheniere.org/misc/mills.htm ). If Chubby Checker can make an entire career out The Twist, I guess Mills can keep living off research dollars from this 20 year old idea.

Sounds too good to be true, but hope is eternal. How about this idea for improving the efficiency of the good old internal combustion engine?

One undeniable fact about quantum mechanics is that a metal folding chair is the second-best conductor of a fart. The best is a church pew.
I have done extensive research in this field.

Scientist says device disproves quantum theory

Interesting statement there, since Quantum Theory supposedly disproves itself within its own radical postulations. But then again, quantum theory predicts that transistors should not work while at the same time predicts that they should work. Sort of like avionics predicts that a Bumble Bee shouldn't be able to fly, while at the same time there is the Bumble Bee buzzing along happily in the air :)

Sounds like what he was saying several years ago.
