Media's protection of Muslim rioters
WorldNetDaily ^ | 11/5/05 | Jack Cashill

Posted on 11/05/2005 11:34:11 AM PST by wagglebee

The Nov. 4 headline of the online version of Le Figaro, a leading French daily, translates as follows: "After a week of riots, the violence continues."

The next eight sub-headlines all refer to the riots as well. They all suggest just how serious a situation this is:

"Tonight: A bus depot and 400 cars destroyed."

"Cars burned and vandalized; city dwellers are exasperated."

"Firemen grow increasingly angry."

On this same day, none of the major left-leaning European English language media – the BBC, Guardian and Times in Britain and the Irish Times – chose to report on the frightening chaos in France, at least not on the front pages of their online publications.

Read carefully, the lead article in Figaro suggests the reason for this unwitting conspiracy of silence. It tells how more than 315 cars have been burned in the heart of Paris in the last two days. Bus service has been interrupted. A school has been torched, and police have been shot at. Nor has the violence been limited to Paris. Buildings have been burned in at least a dozen cities around the country.

In Figaro, all these accounts of violence are written in the passive voice. One must read more than two hundred words into the article before learning that there are actual émeutiers – rioters – causing the problem. The riots began a week earlier when two "adolescents" ran from the police who were checking identification papers. Although the police did not chase them, the two youths hid in an electrical power sub-station and electrocuted themselves. This, of course, has led not to a Darwin Award – that will come later – but to much official hand-wringing and investigations of the police as well as a week of madness throughout the nation.

As to the demographics of the two boys and the rioters, the unknowing reader is left without a clue for the first 700 words of the article, save for the fact that they represent part of a "more global, anti-institutional struggle."

The first reference to "musulmans" presents them not as the perpetrators of the violence, but rather as its victims. The article tells of how the explosion of a tear gas grenade in front of a mosque exacerbated the tensions.

"Someone attacked a mosque," the Figaro quotes a young Muslim as saying, "and do you think this ignoble act would pass without response?" Obviously not, although as Figaro notes, the circumstances of the attack remain unclear. One need not be a cynic or a racist to suspect an agent provocateur, a concept the French named, if not invented.

The fact that official France has cozied up to the dissident element in this global struggle has obviously bought it no reprieve. This seemingly unprovoked mayhem by their musulman friends has embarrassed the French media into awkward apologetics and the European media into silence. Observing them, one begins to understand how Hitler was allowed to prosper.

"France herself is being attacked by foreign hordes," claims the reliably outspoken Jean-Marie Le Pen at the end of the article. Indeed, in a continent of cowards and compromisers, it should not come as a surprise that citizens will turn to the first public figure who dares say anything at all.

I think at the very least, the French deserve to know who they will be surrendering to.

You have revealed the problem, the Muslim terrorists, gang bangers and thugs have not appointed a Grand Mullah for the Paris area, so the French don't have anyone to surrender to, and the terrorism continues.

I suggest the French beg the terrorist to appoint a Grand Mullah to decree and enforce Shariah law so the French could surrender and convert.

The Mohammedans will do anything to maintain and expand their empire. Western bourgeois civilization limits actions it will take to preserve its survival. There are things the west just does not have the will to do. So the outcome seems already assured.

I heard recently on the news that it's now been learned that the rioting is not sporadic and spontaneous but is being orchestrated. Perhaps Jacques Chirac and the French will learn that when a sunami of muslims from North Africa (estimated at 6 million, a significant percentage of France's population) is allowed to immigrate into your nation that the jihadists among them will do precisely what they're now doing. France might learn that their policy of appeasement (denouncing and opposing the Iraq war, etc.) will not succeed with the fanatics among them. In the Dec. '04 edition of Commentary, David Pryce-Jones had an article "The Islamization of Europe?" It describes a deplorable situation in the present and bleak prospects for the future. With a declining indigenous population European nations have imported vast hordes of muslims to clean their streets and do menial labor until their pension systems collapse. Of course it won't much bother a people who know they are headed for negative birthrate extinction. Maintaining a PC pretense about the true nature and extent of the rioting rather than decisively confronting the chaotic anarchy with force will only teach the Islamists that the infidels are weak and cowardly and they need only look for another pretext to instigate destruction and mayhem in the future. I must admit that I'm guilty of a little schadenfreud -- it couldn't have happened to a more smugly arrogant and hypocritical nation --- au revoir!!

More correctly, the French halted the Islamic invasion after it had overrun Spain (Iberia) when Charles Martel defeated them in the battle of Tours in 732. It wasn't until the late 15th century that Ferdinand and Isabella started to drive them from Spain. The Islamofascists still remember that. Their goal is still to follow Mohammed's example (who himself engaged in the slaughter of Arabs and Jews) and command to subdue the infidel.

Ferdinand and Isabella completed a process that began much earlier. There was a bit of northern Spain that the Moors never managed to conquer. Charlemagne already conquered an area south of the Pyrenees, the Spanish march, and by the 13th century most of the peninsula was under Christian rule. The last phase was the conquest of the kingdom of Grenada in 1492.

The crusades really start in Spain before the crusades designed to free the Holy Land.

I realize the reconquista was a long process but it really only became serious and viable when Aragon and Castille formed one Spain with the marriage of Ferdinand and Isabella. Actually, the First Crusade was proclaimed by a French pope (Urban II) in 1095 at Clermont. Incidentally, after Ferdinand and Isabella united Spain by their marriage in 1469 their effort succeeded because they were quite ruthless and used the Church as well as the army to purge Spain. They used the Inquisition to persecute not only Islamists posing as Christians but the Jews as well. The Jews rightfully became indignant when, in 1992, the Roman Catholic church was considering the beatification of Isabella. Spanish culture suffered greatly by the persecution and loss of the Jews who took their great intellectual and commercial talents to other European cities. Even to this day one of the two great European branches of Jewry is called "sephardic" i.e. Spanish. No wonder Dostoevsky chose the Spanish mileau for his "Grand Inquisitor" in The Brothers Karamazov - one of the great pieces in world literature!!

the new crusades are starting to boil up from the freeper nation to the average couch potato to the average peabrained politician. too bad Bush couldnt get through to them earlier. Well, we'll get them from our side and Bush will flank them, and islam will be crushed. The only good i can see coming out of the present malaise is the french will be fried in the meantime.

I know that the First Crusade was proclaimed in 1095 but I think the mentality behind the crusades was already found in Spain before that. I think the final version of The Song of Roland may be a little later, but it is an oral poem which developed over several generations, and it tells of the struggle between Christians and "pagans" in Spain (with very little connection to what happened to the original Count Roland).

There is an interesting portrayal of Sephardic Jews in Bosnia in Ivo Andric's novel Bosnian Chronicle (possibly found under slightly different versions of the title), set in a small town in Bosnia in the Napoleonic period. There is a passage where one of the local Jews is thinking back to the good old days when his ancestors lived in Spain.

I never thought the Lewinskys would be the end of liberalism, or anything even close to it. I did think they'd be the end of Clinton, and they were, or close to it. Clinton became a laughing stock after Lewinsky, the Right absolutely went to town. He became "the gift that keeps on giving" for us, and still is. He's the president of the moonbats; he keeps them organized and motivated, and he helps the donkey party suck up their money like a vacuum cleaner.

As far as NO and Katrina, the story on that isn't anything like over, and I think it's going to play out in a way that brings no joy to the left. Just because the MSM hasn't focussed on the debacle unleashed when reality (in the form of a hurricane) crashes into wall-to-wall democrat government, don't think that everyday America didn't notice. And it doesn't hurt that we have Conservative Talk Radio to hammer the point home, again and again.

Liberalism will not be popped like a balloon. It will take many years to neuter it (and there's a good chance that it will morph into something else along the way). It wasn't built overnight, and it won't be destroyed overnight either.

But it is doomed, because it is an ideology that defies reality at a fundamental level. The left is at war with reality, because they can't deal with it and it offends them. They believe that we are each our own god, and that reality should bend itself to their wishes because they are so darn smart.

(steely)
