PARIS (AP) - The fiery urban unrest that has scorched towns from the Mediterranean coast to suburban Paris reached the heavily guarded French capital Sunday.
Bands of marauding youths set 32 cars afire, mostly on the northern and southern edges of the city, according to police.
Inside the city, three cars were damaged by fire from gasoline bombs near the Place de la Republique neighborhood, where residents said they heard a loud explosion and saw flames shooting into the sky.
Police found a gasoline bomb-making factory in a rundown building in Evry, a southern Paris suburb that contained 150 explosives, more than 100 bottles, gallons of fuel and hoods for hiding rioters' faces, Jean-Marie Huet, a senior Justice Ministry official, said Sunday.
THE VIOLENCE: Triggered by an outburst of fury over the accidental electrocution of two teenagers of north African descent, the unrest has taken on unprecedented scope and intensity it started on since Oct. 27. Most rioting has been in towns with large immigrant populations and low-income housing projects where unemployment and distrust of police run high. But on Saturday, arsonists moved beyond their heavily policed neighborhoods to attack others with less security.
The number of cars torched overnight - 1,295 across France - was the highest since the violence began.
THE RESPONSE: Some 2,300 police poured into the Paris region to bolster security overnight while firefighters moved out around the city to douse blazing vehicles. Police reported nearly 200 arrests nationwide.
For the second night in a row, a helicopter equipped with spotlights and video cameras to track packs of rioters combed the Paris suburbs from the air and small teams of police were deployed to chase down rioters speeding from one attack to another in cars and on motorbikes.
Well I for one AM not interested in sending in our Marines to civilized this place, especially after reading this thread.

I'm guessing the French authorities will get ahold of the situation eventually and things will return to "normal" for a time. However, it is a major wake up call for all European countries with high muslim immigration of things to come. Even here in the U.S. we shouldn't get to excited over Paris' problems. We've got plenty of our own impoverished barrios to worry about.
Shoot on sight, end of riots.
The Euro-elites like to look down their noses at America and say it'll fall like ancient Rome did.
Funny thing is, it looks like the barbarians are starting to take down western Europe.
Once these "youths" figure out how much power they actually possess over the EU administration and it's member states, what's to stop them from doing serious damage? It looks like the will to do something to head off the arising immigrant problem isn't there.
Like another poster said, the Marines should not be sent in. Let the EU crowd sink. Socialism should be allowed to suicide.
Reagan had it right....always be ready to talk but carry a big stick and let them know you aren't afraid nor hesitant to use it.....
The discussions go so much smoother that way...
Look at how desperate the media is to avoid the term "Muslim" radicals ("North African" youths or "of North African descent.") BS. Not one white person or black person of the Christian faith is rioting. Maybe they should be!
Hey France, don't ask the U.S. to help. Since you're so "superior" to us, get your fellow corrupted "pacifists" such as Germany, and Spain to help you.
Speaking of which, how much do you want to bet that the Spanish separatists will see this as an opportunity to squeeze the Spanish government?
Europe used to be a nice place to visit without actually living there. It's no longer even a nice place to visit...
As to the "impoverished barrios" here, that's true, but there is no IDEOLOGICAL common thread holding the American poor together. Quite the contrary, they dislike and fight against each other. What's happening in France is historical in its significance, and is very, very dangerous. We might well lose France and several other Euro countries (if we haven't already) before they wake up; then the issue is what do we do with their nuke subs and planes?? If it time for a WW II-type "preemptive" strike to keep them out of the hands of the Islamofascists?
Charles Martel would have known how to handle these Muslims. And it wouldn't be with "negotiations."
They need helicopter GUNSHIPS!
I tend to agree with you. I've said in previous posts that I would not be surprised if terror operatives from all over are pouring into France right now (if not already there and behind this in the first place).
I'm sure they sense a moment of opportunity.
They have to be thinking that FINALLY THEY CAN OPEN A WESTERN FRONT ON THE WAR.
Bomb-making facilities are the result of at least some organization and planning.
It may be that the war really is on in Europe this time.
Response: Typical of todays narrow thinking i.e. always an economic cause. A total disregard for cultural, social, political, religious and racial factors.

True. Another word for it is 'Marxism'.
The French meet their new masters.
I was listening to a radio talk show a month ago and they had a Middle-East expert that said that exaclty was Al-Qaeda's plan to terrorize Europe. The US had already been made the great Satan and now the way to get Europe demonized was to do this sort of terror/rioting/resistance.
