Schwarzenegger, Opponents Campaign Furiously As Election Looms
KSBW Channel ^ | Nov. 7, 2005 | AP

On a day of fiery, last-minute campaigning, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Monday jetted toward a climactic Election Day showdown with Democrats and California's powerful unions that could blot his re-election hopes or provide fresh evidence of his populist clout.

"I'm never going to give up because I have the people power," Schwarzenegger told cheering supporters at a Roseville retirement community in suburban Sacramento, one of seven stops on a statewide fly-around.

Democrats and labor unions have spent more than $100 million to defeat the governor, outspending Schwarzenegger by about 2-1. Their campaign -- casting the governor as an enemy of working people -- appears to have worked so far. Several recent independent polls show none of Schwarzenegger's proposals with majority support among likely California voters, with two of them running far behind.

Schwarzenegger has dismissed polls and cast the election as a continuation of the 2003 gubernatorial recall election. He has sought to recapture the outsider credentials that propelled him to office that year.

"Give me the tools so I can make the changes in California," Schwarzenegger said at the Del Webb Sun City retirement community in Roseville. "That's why people sent me to Sacramento, to fix the broken system."

One can disagree with Arnold on one or two issues but there is no denying his enthusiasm and optimism.

Good move by Tom, IMO if Arnold backs him after he has finished running for Gov, that could actually get him elected.

Any propositions that don't go the way we like should again have signatures gathered and they should be again placed on the ballot.

Let the liberals and unions spend another 20% of a billion on defense instead of candidates IMO.

That's great. :)

Vastly preferable to getting calls from Howard Dean and Barbara Boxer. ;)

I'm a teacher and a volunteer firefighter. I hate the unions and I hate the political structure of administration.

Bunch of queefs. If it is bad for the education union it is typically good for me because it is the babyboomers that run the show. They make us younglings eat dirt.

You too? I thought I was special. I even heard from some actor who I've never heard of. Unfortunately the polling is going south on these. Good news is that it's raining right now and Gov't employees call in sick when it rains.

I agree.

I still think it could go either way.

Boy, if the props would pass, the Dems and unions would be screeching in fear.

The only thing to do is VOTE, regardless of the news or polls.

Remember the 2000 election in Florida, when some people didn't vote, because the MSM announced that Gore had won. If it weren't for that, the votes in Florida would never have been that close.

And even in the last election, remember the bogus exit polls touting a Kerry win.

The incorrect and manipulated exit polls on 2004 Election Day showing a KERRY sweep of the East were put out there for Democrat Party talking heads to quote in their calls into Talk Radio & TV Shows heard midday by Voters on their way to the Polls in the West.

The Enemy is now Within...
and always has been.
