An immigration enforcement bill that would allow the president to send military personnel to the border was introduced Monday by the chairman of the House immigration subcommittee.
The Secure America Act, authored by Rep. John Hostettler, R-Ind., will be among the measures considered by the Judiciary Committee.
Hostettler's measure is expected to have support from those who want to crack down on illegal immigration but opposition from those who want a more comprehensive approach to the problem that includes a temporary guest-worker program.
Hostettler's bill would: Require all illegal immigrants caught within 100 miles of the border to be sent back to their home country within 14 days, under the expedited removal procedure. This would not apply to those seeking asylum.
Increase criminal penalties for the smuggling of immigrants into the United States
Give the president discretion to send military forces to the border to prevent terrorists, drug smugglers and illegal immigrants from entering the country.
Refuse to grant visas to people from countries that won't let the United States send back citizens from that country who have been deemed to be illegally in the U.S.
Create a new Bureau of Immigration Enforcement in the Department of Homeland Security.

What about those outside of the 100 mile range
and those here at the present?
Do the right thing; for the illegals to do the
legal thing.
They just HAD to create a new agency.
An immigration enforcement bill that would allow the president to send military personnel to the border was introduced Monday by the chairman of the House immigration subcommittee.
Those aren't easy questions to answer, so they'll be addressed in later legislation, if at all.
Outlaw knowingly hireing ANY illegal.. PROBLEM SOLVED..
I will believe it when a non government official videotapes them actually doing something.
sorry, but those are easy questions and if
we are serious these are the prime questions
requiring answers.
For illegals to do the right thing; they must
be shown they must do the right thing to come
back after they are removed, otherwise they
must be removed again, and or placed in detainment
camps.
Are we at war or not.......
maybe I don't want to know.
After all Congress refuses to address that matter.
So true.....
this is already the case.....
it is against the law to hire an illegal
at the present time. the law isn't enforced.
Darn I knew there was something I didn't like about BUSH..
Not even one case was enforced in 2004.
they recently changed the asylum rules to make it more difficult to claim asylum.
WTF? Who ever heard of a country using its military to defend its borders?
yes, it is the executive branch which swears to
uphold the law, and yes on the matter of illegals,
President Bush has failed, but I'll take him over
any demonrat who ran against him.....
but I too dislike his grasp of the illegal issue
I don't doubt you!!!
and I wouldn't be surprised.
Interesting.
Probably have to ask twice now and are assigned an ACLU attorney while you wait. sarc.
Forgive me if I doubt the efficacy of recent "reforms".
Now THAT'S what I'm talking 'bout!
I'd change it to:
An immigration enforcement bill that would allow force the president to send military personnel to the border...
