Ousted CBS Producer Mary Mapes Comes Out Swinging
The Washington Post ^ | Novermber 9, 2005 | Howard Kurtz

Posted on 11/08/2005 9:48:08 PM PST by Senator Goldwater

After a year of silence about the biggest scandal in CBS News history, Mary Mapes has plenty to say -- about George W. Bush, Karl Rove, Les Moonves, her father, bloggers, the mainstream press and others who she believes contributed to her downfall. What took her so long? "I was extremely battered," she said in an interview yesterday. "I'd had months and months of having my head kicked around a soccer stadium by much of the Western world. I needed some time to regroup." Mapes is now pushing a book, called "Truth and Duty," about the botched "60 Minutes II" story on Bush's National Guard service that led to her firing. She ladles out plenty of blame but largely defends what she still considers a fair piece of reporting, although an independent panel accused CBS of having "failed miserably" to authenticate the documents before rushing the story to air. "I'm a human being; I do things wrong from the first breath I take in the morning," Mapes said. "I don't in any way feel I am without responsibility in this. . . . I probably shouldn't have been as pliable or as malleable as I was" when her bosses were finalizing the story. "This is a huge shortcoming. I didn't know how to say no. . . . I was trying very hard to please them." She praises Dan Rather as "a tremendously loyal person" and says the story cost him his anchor job. "Dan was betrayed by a number of people, certainly by the company he has gotten up and worked for every morning for 40 years," Mapes said.

Hannity played a clip of this Leftist bimbo whining that no one had ever proved that Mapes' "documents" weren't authentic.

Sorry, the documents were proven beyond any doubts they were not authentic. The fonts of the typewriter indicates they could not have been typed on the dates indicated. This woman is so delusional.

" You were supposed to report the news, not make a 'difference'"

She made a difference alright.

Right, Dan?

"Dan was betrayed by a number of people, certainly by the company he has gotten up and worked for every morning for 40 years,"
------

Dear Mary, most companies fire folks who damage their business. Dan and you stoled whatever shred of credibility that network might have had. Granted, it was petty theft, but theft none the less.

She says Viacom, CBS's corporate parent, threw her overboard because Chief Executive Sumner Redstone feared regulatory retaliation by the Bush administration.
-----

Dear Mary, it was your actions that caused Redstone's fear of regulatory retailiation...if that fear truly existed.
Yor deserved to be thrown overboard.

Mapes is dismissive of Marian Carr Knox, the 86-year-old former secretary to Bush's late squadron commander, who told Rather she believed the memos were fake but the substance of the documents was true. Mapes called her "maddening" and "a quite self-righteous typist."
-----

But wait a moment here, Mary. Isn't Knox saying the same thing Dan has said? Fake but accurate.

Now for the good news, liberals don't buy books Mary, they can't read, they have to have their kool-aid in the form of tv news.

HA! Shows where HER sympathies lie...if she had been a REAL American, she would have said "...having my head kicked through the UPRIGHTS..."

(Sorry...this is the only thing I can think of to even grace the thought of this poor, wronged woman...)

"I wasn't aware that we took orders from Karl Rove."

Shhh. The less you talk about it, the less likely it is they will find out. Remember, there are DU'ers around here...

In her world George Bush is a fool for falling for faked documents from Niger (even though he did not depend on them for the conclusion he made) and Joe Wilson a hero for outing the documents (before he even saw them).

She said she had proof that her story was real, even though it was obviously faked, it was refuted by the son of the primary source who worked with his father in the Guard, and ignored other obvious problems with the story.

She has a book out now...

Was the book faked too? Why do publishers give the time of day to fraudsters?

Freepers just don't understand. The world is all about Mapes and how others relate to and feel about her. OMG this woman was allegedly a journalist!
