CIA asks Justice Dept. to review prisons report (Trent Lott thinks a republican senator leaked it)
CNN ^ | November 8, 2005 | Ed Henry

Posted on 11/08/2005 11:26:43 PM PST by tlb

Lott told reporters the information in the Post story was the same as that given to Republican senators in a closed-door briefing by Vice President Dick Cheney last week.

"Every word that was said in there went right to the newspaper," he said. "We can't keep our mouths shut."

Lott, a former Senate majority leader who was pushed out in 2002, suggested the information was passed along by a senator to a staff member.

He said the investigation Frist and Hastert want may result in an ethics probe of a Senate member.

The CIA forwarded it. I bet that means at least THEY think a Pubbie did it. They'd cover for their butt-boys on the left.

If it was a Republican, it was probably a member of Lott's staff. LOL

Exactly. The sheeple wont make the distinction that it was a RINO. It'll just be another Republican in ethics trouble to them, and the MSM will make sure to spin it that way. This looks like just another part of the CIA disinformation campaign against the GOP, and Frist and Hastert fell right into the trap.

Lott is basing this on the assumption that the democrats had no knowledge of the "secret prisons". As if the Republicans in the senate said....hey, let's keep this a big secret from the Democrats?

I don't think so.

The leak probe request was announced as top administration officials battled a Senate-approved measure that explicitly bars "cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment" of prisoners in U.S. custody.

The White House has threatened to veto a $440 billion Pentagon spending bill if it includes that measure, which is backed by Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona -- who as a prisoner of war during Vietnam was tortured by his North Vietnamese captors.

And it came a day after Democrats called for an independent investigation into the treatment of prisoners in American custody.

Does anyone trust our CIA? Consider the Plame affair, used to try and smear high ranking Republicans. Now this. The CIA releases this info and it is given to GOP Senators and then it hits the newspaper? Come on. Put two and two together. The CIA is full of liberal Clintonistas. I believe it is possible that someone in the CIA released this info in conjunction with Cheney's briefing in order to make it look like the GOP leaked it. Politics in Washington is mired in mud.

The CIA leaked it themselves maybe?

They are supposedly the "only" ones who knew that Vice President Cheney was giving the Republican senators a closed door briefing.

If CIA leaked the story themselves then complained about it, just like they did with the Plame game, who gets the blame for the leak?

Suddenly the msm has a new fire under the tired old Plame story, only with new fuel poured on that fire. Now they can shine a light of slime on even more Republicans and keep pushing all the way to 2006 for the dems.

Just a thought.

You beat me to McPain. That was my first guess.

He likes to parade his military background while he takes jabs at Bush about anything military or CIA related.

And, he's the one that wants the terrorists brought here and given trials in regular American courts, with all the rights and priveleges that go with it. In other words, once we catch any terrorist anywhere, under any condition, he wants to treat it as a law enforcements issue, not war.

Yet, did he and we think, at the time, that the North Vietnamese had no right to put him on any kind of trial?? We did. And why? Because, other than outright "war crimes", soldiers are not supposed to be put on trial. They are simply detained so that they cannot fight, until either the war is over or they are released early; which is what we have done with most of the detainees sent to Gitmo.

With big public trials here, their defense, their public defense would just add to the anti-war three ring circus.

Maybe McPain is a bigger phony than we realize and he understands that drawback and wants it that way.

I bet you're right -- McCain.... because the President said he would veto his bill -- which he should veto.

Lott needs to put a sock in his mouth so he cannot talk. The audacity of him to get out in front of a mic on this story. I am so sick of tired of Trent Lott that I could scream. Will someone tell him that he is no longer Majority Leader and to mind his own business instead of confirming what was said by VP Cheney. That doesn't seem very smart in itself to give confirmation.

Maybe someone should look into Lott and his big mouth!

Sounds right to me and here is Mr. Know It All Lott confirming what was in the Cheney briefing and blaming a Republican.

Lott's also still p*ssed off that he's not the majority leader. He's p*ssed off at everyone who had a hand in his fall on the Republican side and that includes the Bush administration.

Okay, first of all, am I the only insomniac around here? Apparently not. ;)

Second of all, no kidding! I swear, it looks like they are trying to make news. With all the really disturbing things happening (like, oh, say, for one thing, the riots in France and just exactly what that means) we now have this new thing popping up out of the blue, apparently geared to make Republicans look bad.

I am sick and tired of it, and (though I know he was trying to be polite) wish GW had cleaned house way back in January 2001.

And.. if this doesn't make sense, well, I'm sorry but I will NOT make coffee at 3:30 a.m. I'm still hopeful. :)
