Pennsylvania gave the boot to one Supreme Court Judge and came close to doing it to another, Tuesday.
Voters voted not to retain Russell M. Nigro, a Philadelphia Democrat, 711, 251 to 681,407, according to unofficial results from the Department of State's website.
They voted to keep Sandra Schultz Newman, a Montgomery County Republican 768,683 to 656,113.
Nigro will step down in January and Gov. Ed Rendell will appoint his successor who must stand for election in 2007.

So Rendell will put another whack job on the court.
Incumbents took a hit here in western new york too
Unfotunately a lot of newly elected are democraps, but they RAN AS republicans... so I hope they govern as them too
Yeah, for two years. But, the new whack job will probably not be worse than the existing whack jobs and all the whack jobs now know they are being watched.
** a Philadelphia Democrat, **
One down, more to come?
With God, all things are possible :-)
Stand by for the primaries in May. That will be our chance to let the legislators know that that unconstitutional pay raise was a bad idea.
"Voters voted not to retain Russell M. Nigro, a Philadelphia Democrat..."
Does Jesse Jackson know a Nigro was treated like this?
One out of two....I'll take it. It's a start.
Until we get a legislature that does the peoples business, vote every incumbent out. This vote will throw a scare into the pols, but they will forget by next election. Vote one of the leadership out and they will know that we mean business.
Only reason she stayed is because people knew if two were voted out, Ed would install two democraps.
Exactly!! :-)
If the people don't forget, they won't forget.
I think Ed Rendell's call was effective in saving Newman. I got that message on my ans. machine. I still voted against both Newman and Nigro.
Conservative Christian voters were anxious to keep the female judge McCullough. I agree with that position, I voted to retain her.
And I honestly can't object. It's not loss that Rendell picks Nigro's replacement and I can see how one would think that a Rendell replacement would be worse than Newman.
I, however, am convinced that the whole lot of them are hopelessly corrupt. Anyway, a storng message has been sent and they now know we are watching.
Cie, I misread your statement. Is McCullough a local Common Pleas Court judge? I voted to retain one of our's just because the Dems said to vote against his retention on their sample ballot.
