Rep. Sue Myrick (R-N.C.) let slip a bombshell disclosure at a news conference today to announce a bill targeting states that allow illegal aliens to get drivers licenses.
During the Q&A with reporters, Myrick gave as a reason for proposing the bill the recent capture of three al Qaeda terrorists at the U.S.-Mexico border.
A check of Google News turned up no references to this incident, yet Myrick stated this was a 'given fact.'
No reporter asked her about this revelation, but it was noted at the end of a Charlotte Observer article by Tim Funk.
Two Representatives from North Carolina, Virginia Foxx (R) and Patrick McHenry (R) stood with Myrick at the press conference. Neither commented on her matter of fact statement.
Rep. Myrick's remarks can be heard online at her Congressional Website here. the statement is made at about 8:45 into the press conference.
A call placed to Myrick's office in D.C. was not answered as the office is closed for the evening.
Transcript:
"Our main concern is, who's in our state? I mean this is a critical issue today. I mean they just arrested down on the border, what a couple of weeks ago, three al Qaeda members who came across from Mexico into the United States. I mean that's a given fact. They were holding them in the jail down there."
What did Bubba say yesterday about them all being PRODUCTIVE STUDENTS....?
The jail down there? In Mexico? Or in the U.S.? I, too, would like to know when and where this happened!
Leak investigation #3? (and the 3rd Republican?)
If we get nuked, NO administration, no matter how patriotic, can hope for political survival, if they continue this unmanned border INSANITY.
........probably just three Democrats from the Party of Peace.
Send it to Drudge.
A check of Google News turned up no references to this incident, yet Myrick stated this was a 'given fact.'
fyi ping
This is huge. This will get 500 follow up comments, or more.
After the horrific bombings in Jordan, and warnings that the US is a soft target, the Bush admin. had better do something about the border and fast.
Classified information slip "whoopsie?"
send it to Bush, it's his fault
The major networks are all over this, right?
They're just doing the BOMBING that Americans aren't willing to do...
I would think it better if we had no mosques. It's clear that they are staging areas for conquest.
Hat tip to southernnorthcarolina for posting the Observer article which buried this 'tidbit'.

"Disinformation" by Richard Miniter is an excellent book, with one huge exception: one of his "myths" is that terrorists might come across the US/Mexico border. That's no myth, and this proves it.
How in the hell do we get our senators and representatives to close the borders? Do we have to send a lynch mob to Washington?
It would definitely help if there weren't so many appeasors in the U.S., whose behaviors/comments remind me so much, of late, of the frenchies.
"unmanned borders" is not the cause. The issue here is Al Queda, not a border. Although some people will make it their soap box or agenda allowing them to trash Bush, blah blah blah.
Myrick let slip possible classified info. If you think that the border is the cause, you're wrong. They have been breaking up terror cells in the USA ever since Bush began our war on terrorism. It is exactly how he said it would be in the address to congress he gave the week after the 9-11 attacks; that there would be victories that are in the news and many that are not. He spelled it all out. Not too many listened.
Many of these people are already living in our towns and making a living while planning a killing. They don't ALL come across unmanned borders. In fact I doubt many of them do. Too risky getting caught and shipped out. Much safer to come in on a student or work visa from the middle east and get lost in the system and overstay your welcome. Heck it's about all the Homeland dept does anymore is round up people who aren't supposed to be here (expired student visas, etc) and sending them out.
Maybe the Grannie Brigade might bring attention to this too. : )
What did Jorge say about them being just good hearted people trying to support their families?
They are both beyond the pail!
So let's, by all means, continue keeping the BACK DOOR WIDE OPEN TO 'EM.
Why am I NOT surprised?! For those who still do not believe that our borders are gateways for terrorists, please sit up and take notice. If this information is true, some folks deserve an old-fashioned spanking for being so ignorant or stubborn about this issue.

Y'all really want to see this!
You are aware, aren't you, that the nineteen hijackers who murdered 3,000 innocent Americans were here legally.
I'm not quite sure this "proves it" but I know one thing, if I were a terrorist, I know how I'd try to get in.
There may be a news blackout on this. If I were in charge of DHS, one thing I'd want is to get some of those creeps, hold them, interrogate them, find out what and who else they know, before the unhelpful and adversarial press got word and spread it around for all the terrorists to see.
I know the MLM are the holiest of holies, but, you gotta draw the line somewhere. Let's see ... protecting the US or letting some self-appointed "press hero" screw it up for the sake of Freedom of the Press. Hmmmmmmm.
BTW, Musolini was a journalist.
How in the hell do we get our senators and representatives to close the borders?
Drag them, kicking and screaming, down there, and TIE them
to the pitiful excuse for a border we have.
Let them get a real eyeful.
That was a cool article!
I've got a tickling memory.
A Texas U.S. Representative made similar claims last year, or early this year, and I'll be darned if I can remember his name.
I'm fairly sure it was in the Dallas Morning News...
Why? I agree with Bush and his efforts to secure the borders. IIRC he has spent more than his predecessor on the situation. It was a wreck when he came to Office, and I think he will set it in better order by 2008 than when he arrived in 2000.
Unfortunately, another terrorist attack may be the only thing that will get our senators and representatives, and a few here on FR, to finally acknowledge the dangers of our open borders.
What does that have to do with cost of tea in China? What did Jordan do today?????? SEALED THEIR BORDERS. That's called "containment." Then you start looking at those here legally; then you deport those who aren't.
You don't make excuses for those leaving the country vulnerable to criminals by leaving doors wide open.
"They're just doing the BOMBING that Americans aren't willing to do..."
LOL! And they're doing it for practically nothing! I say with give them amnesty!
Just knew about this one:
http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=44531
It's been 4 years since 9/11. There's no change at the borders....they doors are open.
He and all the other elected officials have done crap about the borders.
Good point, Mike, and I suspect most AQ operatives already here came in legally.
OTOH...that Mohammed woman who was arrested in McAllen Texas walked across the Rio Grande carrying $8,000 cash and an altered South African passport.
The fact is, they're coming in any way they think they can. Chances are pretty good she was on a watch list that prevented her from coming in on a visa.
PING!
yeah...
like I said the border way is certainly possible, but it involves more complications than other ways do.
BOTH need reform. Some of it is simply not adjusting the laws and regs to the times, some of it is pure slovenly government and part of it is, well I don't know what it is, dereliction comes to mind.
In the interviews of "experts" in the security field on Fox today regarding the danger of an attack here, a couple of them opined that the hard part would be getting into the country, but we have many soft targets after that. I almost fell off the sofa to hear any so-called "expert" say that it would be hard to get into the country when caravans of illegals enter over the Mexican border day and night. We are doomed.
The question is whether Myrick knows what she's talking about. There's no IQ or competency test required before becoming a congressman, and I don't believe I'm familiar with her.
I enjoyed reading about the Grannie Brigade, too; you're saying there was such a group a year ago? I thought they were brand new.....or this is another group of ladies?
And let's go back to August 2004. Remember this?: Officials in Indiana and Washington, D.C., said they were dumbfounded by a statement U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris made about a terrorist plot to blow up a power grid in Indiana. (Maybe she was right after all.)
I don't think you have to choose between one source of danger or the other. Sure, some terrorists are already in place, living and working in various parts of our country. Others have come in from Canada, with Seattle and Detroit as probably the major entry points. Others are coming in from Mexico.
This is partly a Border Patrol problem, partly a Homeland Security problem, but we shouldn't let our guard down with either. Yet we surely are.
We also need to watch out for prison conversions and for radical mosques and madrassahs that seek to make youthful converts to jihad.
