The palm on the SC state flag is the Palmetto Palm--the state tree. Now as for the crescent moon that is another matter and has always left me wondering also.

...the liberals do that a lot. They turn things around to take the focus off of the subject at hand.

Excellent point and exactly what the open borders/pro-illegal alien crowd here does.

It's just very scary looking to me - something about the Communists too - I can't remember if it reminds me of the Chinese or the Russian symbolism.

"... want to give them amnesty, guest worker status, shamnesty... "

I have a different take on this. I think it's very worthwhile to "clear the field" as it were. First, all these people will be documented and records can be cross-checked, in nanoseconds. Second, and this is most important, it incredibly slows down the illegal border crossings, so much so that the remaining illegal crossers can be assumed to be either drug traffickers, terrorists, or terrorist-suppliers. We are moving from checking millions through, and LETTING millions cross illegally, to speeding up the flow of the non-threatening ones, and thus pin-pointing the bad guys who still try to cross illegally. That's when we set up the tazers, the infrared cameras, the satelite watch. At least, that's my take. I could be verrrry wrong.

"The MSM may be doing us all a favor by not reporting this."

And that would be a 'first'. Maybe they're growing in wisdom.

This has been the state flag of SC since before the 'Late Upleasantness' A/K/A the Civil War. People in SC are salt of the earth types.

Given recent history here in the states as well as the rest of the world I can see how the flag can give a person the heebie-jeebies.

If it any consolation I do know that from the most recent records SC has a low level of illegals far lower than NC.

Has it really? Wow - I'm sorry! I've always paid attention to plates but for some reason, never saw that one until recently. I don't think too many SCers come out to my part of Arizona. So, I assumed it was a recent plate, kinda pc or something. Thanks for the info and good news about low illegal rates - they sure seem to have engulfed most other states, even parts of the Midwest.

The situation of our unsecured borders is BEYOND FRUSTRATING!

Waiting for another attack before we change is ridiculous and unacceptable.

Hi MamaDearest. :-)
I'll take your recollection of the jihadi post as I seem to have information overload and don't remember that one.

This might sound silly, but given the crime that occurs in southern border towns, why don't the states take it upon themselves to seal their borders?

Because the bureaucrats don't want to, and they always say "it's a federal responsibility." The lame-o AZ gov declared a state of emergency so she could get fed funds, but as per usual, all any of them do is talk and nothing of consequence ever gets done. Meanwhile, we taxpayers continue to get zapped (I'm trying to be polite here).

"If any of these terrorists did anything at all, even killing just a few, it would be the end of Bush and Republicans for a long time."

Then the terrorists will have won a big one. I hope we Americans have a lot more brains than that. Hope we can emulate the Brits, during the London blitz: do you think they shamed CHURCHILL for what the Gerry's did???!!! Do you think we Americans flogged FDR for Pearl Harbor? NO, at least there were no thoughts of that for another 40 or 50 years (hind sight, and all that).

Or are you being sarcastic?

Got an anecdote that's sorta relevant.

Overheard in the ER waiting room in a border town's hospital:

"Governor Napolitano is just a racist. She has to be. She tripled the number of Border Patrol here since she took office..."

And these people vote. And this particular person is raising 7 more voters...

I read what you wrote the same way. It caused me to check the sign-up date. I thought someone had taken a name similar to yours and posted the 'it doesn't matter' post.

The issue here is Al Queda, not a border.

There are two issues, Al Queda and illegals and they are mildly connected.

In the absence of Al Queda, there are probably a majority of Americans who want the illegals stopped and want a closed border and see possible Al Queda inflitration as a good excuse to get it.

There is a small number of Americans who see a guest worker program as a solution to stopping Al Queda. That if the illegals come to you for a background check, they become legal guest workers and that frees border patrol to look for terrorists, drug dealers, and other criminals who won't come to you.

There is a third group who like the status quo because they like not having to mow the lawn, like having nannies and like the quality and price the illegals charge.

This third group is promoting an unacceptable agenda where the criminals and terrorists hide amonst the flood of illegal gardners and janitors.

I fall into group number 2 and I think group number 3 is irresponsible.
