True, however, if they hold those districts by a slight margin and the GOP fortunes turn unfavorable RINO's lose seats as well in favor of real Liberal Democrats. Snowe and Collins may be safe. Chafee is not. It's possible he'll experience this effect next year.
The madness is that the GOP works to re-elect Chafee at their own detriment. That is money that could go to races in W.V., the Dakota's, etc...Conservative leaning states. Wins in those states are doable, and better favor keeping the fortunes of the GOP afloat while retaining their Majority in the Senate.
The "Republican Senatorial Committee" exists to elect republican senators. Their first task is to fully support the existing republican senators against all attacks. In some cases this gets senators to vote on party-line for some issues we would otherwise lose. But in any case that is their job.
If you don't like it, you should avoid giving money to the RSCC. I don't give them money, but I don't get mad at them for what they do (just HOW they do it -- like attacking Chafee's primary opponent for ties to oil companies).
I DO get mad at the RNC for stuff, because they are supposed to represent the party, not the politicians we elect.
