An excerpt from page 201 of her new book:
Within minutes of Buckhead's original posting, Freepers began to repeat and embellish Buckhead's thoughts. Not surprisingly, they all agreed with him, they all agreed with one another, and they all agreed this should be pursued aggressively. Freethinkers they are not. The Freepers and their lockstep like-minded fellow travelers moved as a group, like a school of sharks sweeping toward an unaware and unarmed victim. CBS was like some sunburned, overweight Florida tourist with a cut foot, floundering and flapping in the water alone in the surf. The Freepers swarmed CBS not because it was right or fair but because they could.
On Web sites such as Powerline, INDC Journal, Allahpundit, and Spacetownusa, the bravehearts of the blogging world worked anonymously in what appeared to be huge numbers, in unison, to destroy the Bush-Guard story, to uphold one another's wild and hateful claims, to outshout, outargue, and outblog anyone who dared to disagree. And on their Web sites there is no disagreement. They hate in unison, they speak with one angry voice, they each make themselves bigger by staying as close together as possible.
Mary, no hard feelings? Even in forced retirement, Mapes continues her legacy of accuracy, as neither Powerline, nor Spacetown, nor INDC Journal worked anonymously during the scandal. I invite everyone to revisit my September archives and peruse the "wild and hateful claims" made by INDC. Good times.
I will grant her one thing - the "school of sharks" analogy is pretty accurate, though her description of a helpless victim (a multi-million dollar respected professional news organization) is a bit ... off. And let's not forget who chummed the water.
(Thanks to Raving Atheist for the tip and excerpt)
Even on CNN's Larry King after she had her say(even with supporters calling in), Larry King had a panel on that disputed her contentions decisively. Larry King is renowned for easy interviewing. If you don't look good on Larry King you won't look good anywhere.
The more she spoke of honor, the faster we counted the spoons. (with apologies to Ralph Waldo Emerson)
They hate in unison, they speak with one angry voice, they each make themselves bigger by staying as close together as possible.
I take it that she hasn't done her homework and actually read FR. No disagreements? We speak with one voice? Right...
MUCK FAPES!
:-)

Her rantings sound like the late stages of syphillus. Was she part of some experiment and never told about it? (Maybe by an ex-boyfriend?)
Mary's victimology is tiresome.
*yawn*
But Mary, it felt sooooooo gooooooood! Can you say adios, sayonara, au revoir, auf wiedersehen, good-bye?
This is too funny. Is this woman sane? A multi-billion dollar corporation with thousands of employees is unaware and unarmed?
Congratulations to the Freepers who made this happen.
NO!
I was listening to Rush yesterday and he played a snippet from the Today show with Mapes and Katie Couric. She basically said she believes the National Guard story to be true even if the documents were forged. When asked shouldn't the media have to prove it she said NO! It is up to the people to disprove the story if it is not true.
unaware and unarmed.... CBS
I must admit, her assessment of CBS as being unaware and unarmed is rather spot-on. Kudos to her pico-moment of mental clarity.
You could say the exact same thing about how CBS swarmed on the Bush memo story because they could and how closed-minded they are and how CBS walked in lockstep with their liberal mindset.
Seeing a bitter, nasty leftist making a fool of herself gives me a nice warm fuzzy.
If Mary asked for the time of day, she'd take it and wouldn't give it back.
Not to forget the rest of the MSM, which were as protective as they could be.
