Mary Mapes Names Names ("Anonymous" Ones)

Posted by Bill

An excerpt from page 201 of her new book:

Within minutes of Buckhead's original posting, Freepers began to repeat and embellish Buckhead's thoughts. Not surprisingly, they all agreed with him, they all agreed with one another, and they all agreed this should be pursued aggressively. Freethinkers they are not. The Freepers and their lockstep like-minded fellow travelers moved as a group, like a school of sharks sweeping toward an unaware and unarmed victim. CBS was like some sunburned, overweight Florida tourist with a cut foot, floundering and flapping in the water alone in the surf. The Freepers swarmed CBS not because it was right or fair but because they could.

On Web sites such as Powerline, INDC Journal, Allahpundit, and Spacetownusa, the bravehearts of the blogging world worked anonymously in what appeared to be huge numbers, in unison, to destroy the Bush-Guard story, to uphold one another's wild and hateful claims, to outshout, outargue, and outblog anyone who dared to disagree. And on their Web sites there is no disagreement. They hate in unison, they speak with one angry voice, they each make themselves bigger by staying as close together as possible.

Mary, no hard feelings? Even in forced retirement, Mapes continues her legacy of accuracy, as neither Powerline, nor Spacetown, nor INDC Journal worked anonymously during the scandal. I invite everyone to revisit my September archives and peruse the "wild and hateful claims" made by INDC. Good times.

I will grant her one thing - the "school of sharks" analogy is pretty accurate, though her description of a helpless victim (a multi-million dollar respected professional news organization) is a bit ... off. And let's not forget who chummed the water.

(Thanks to Raving Atheist for the tip and excerpt)

Mapes's comments about Freepers are especially delicious, but they don't erase our footprint on her butt!

Even on CNN's Larry King after she had her say(even with supporters calling in), Larry King had a panel on that disputed her contentions decisively. Larry King is renowned for easy interviewing. If you don't look good on Larry King you won't look good anywhere.

I take it that she hasn't done her homework and actually read FR. No disagreements? We speak with one voice? Right...

Her rantings sound like the late stages of syphillus. Was she part of some experiment and never told about it? (Maybe by an ex-boyfriend?)

This is too funny. Is this woman sane? A multi-billion dollar corporation with thousands of employees is unaware and unarmed?

Congratulations to the Freepers who made this happen.

"Is this woman sane?"

NO!

I was listening to Rush yesterday and he played a snippet from the Today show with Mapes and Katie Couric. She basically said she believes the National Guard story to be true even if the documents were forged. When asked shouldn't the media have to prove it she said NO! It is up to the people to disprove the story if it is not true.

unaware and unarmed.... CBS

I must admit, her assessment of CBS as being unaware and unarmed is rather spot-on. Kudos to her pico-moment of mental clarity.

You could say the exact same thing about how CBS swarmed on the Bush memo story because they could and how closed-minded they are and how CBS walked in lockstep with their liberal mindset.

" . . . to uphold one another's wild and hateful claims, to outshout, outargue, and outblog anyone who dared to disagree."

Wild and hateful??? Didn't the whole discussion start out as someone questioning the the type font, the kerning (spacing in between letters) and the super script of the "th". What is hateful and wild about that? Are we such peons that we are not allowed to question the Great Mary Mapes--even when our own expertise runs contrary to her claims????

Wah, wah, wah.

Oh, wait, yes, I do believe that *is* an image of a boot on her backside! Where can ~I~ get my official Freeper jackboots too?? ;-)

Obviously she's never actually read FR, or she'd realize there's lots of times people are NOT marching in 'lockstep agreement'. What a glutton for punishment, and a maroon.

Anyone who watches network news should take a long, hard look at Mary Mapes. These are the kind of people ABC, CBS, NBC have working behind the scenes to put together their news packages. ARROGANT LEFT WING CUCKOO CLOCKS.

TOO funny! If FReepers are "lockstep like-minded" and "not freethinkers", what does that make the CBS staff, where several levels of executives and "journalists" rushed to air a story built around a blatant amateurish forgery, which they never suspected was a forgery because it said what they wanted to believe?

OK. I am trying VERY hard not to laugh. The ridiculous melodramatic rhetoric would seem more appropriate for a murder mystery in an afternoon soap opera. Note the Clintonesque language: "...because they could."

Is she a zany wacko lunatic or what?

Poor little old CBS. Boo hoo...

Within minutes of Buckhead's original posting, Freepers began to repeat and embellish Buckhead's thoughts.

Thus, they did the job Poor Mary "Drama Queen" Mapes and the Algonquin Roundtable at Black Rock did not do.

Not surprisingly, they all agreed with him...

He was right.

...they all agreed with one another...

Transitive property.

...and they all agreed this should be pursued aggressively.

Because it should have been, and always should be.

Freethinkers they are not.

Considering the source, LOLROTFLMAOAPIMPRFI

The Freepers and their lockstep like-minded fellow travelers moved as a group, like a school of sharks sweeping toward an unaware and unarmed victim. CBS was like some sunburned, overweight Florida tourist with a cut foot, floundering and flapping in the water alone in the surf.

Entering a bad writing contest, Mary? Sheesh.

What a DRAMA QUEEN!

From the introduction to Mapes' description of her fact-checking process. So help me God, I am not making this up:
This is an explanation of the techniques I used to compare the Killian memos to the official Bush records that had been made public over the years. Before we aired our story on September 8, 2004, I had essentially tried to marry the Killian documents with the official record. I was looking for anything that didn’t fit: dates, names, references to rank, and a variety of other factors. I was looking for a stopper, a place where the Killian memos clashed with the official record, something that would indicate to me that the new memos weren’t real.

I couldn’t find it.

I enjoy Gaggle, that and Day By Day, which is brilliant. Had some fun earlier this year with DailyKOS when they misrepresented one of my toons, made me smile to go there and see a picture of a kitty instead of the image they had hotlinked to. It was a cheap, stupid trick I thoroughly enjoyed.
Here's one from the vault you might enjoy-

So, let me get this straight. She goes on the Today show and says that it is up to the public to find out if the story is true. It happens and now she wants to complain about it. Boy, talk about a loser.

Check out the glowing reviews by the leftist nutjobs on that page. They pay less attention to Mapes actual arguments, and are more concerned with attacking the people giving it one-star reviews. Think they actually read it yet?
