I was wondering how Hollywood would choose to pervert our military in this new film. Thanks, Ollie, you answered my question.

I won't waste my time and money on this trumped up story based on nothing but lies. There are only a few war movies worth watching and this isn't one of them. One movie I do recommend is called When Trumpets Fade

"Those who participated in making this nihilist flop deserve nothing but scorn in return."

It's amazing that for all the crap that Hollywood dishes out there are real heroes that keep America safe. Hollywood seems intent on enjoying its nihilistic splendor in the grass, its flirtation with Islamofacsim. But Hollywood doesn't understand how blatantly irrelevant they are to the rest of America... what they want to show is that there is no war, only individuals caught up in a machine. And they want that message to spread because, ultimately, they believe the protagonist is just like themselves -- selfish, self serving, ego maniacs with money as their one and only Godhead, and that is nihilism American style.

Yeah, go see the movie if you want to see Hollywood's tawdry little life first hand...

USMC 1977 to 1981

I saw this movie about 4 days ago

what a waste

While we did do some of the things done in this movie, these are the things that we didn't tell our mother about.

They are the things we are ashamed of.

For Swoffard to make a movie based on his sick memories of his personal perversions is sinking to a new low.

Yes, the language is sometimes accurate, but most of it to me is totally out of reality and does not reflect what I remember at all, especially how we spoke to Staff NCO's. Or LtCol's like he did in the last combat scene.

For him to make the movie he did shows he never had Esprit de Corps, all he had is graduation from boot camp.

And no one cares about how hard boot camp is, Stanley Kubrik's FULL METAL JACKET cannot be improved upon, only copied cheaply even by genuine Drill Instructer veterans.

I believe that a more appropriate title would be, Jughead.

God bless our troops who have payed the ultimate sacrifice, for those who are currently serving in our Armed Forces, our retired vets, and all of their loved ones.

We salute you.

Send in Marines?
By ROBERT DOMINGUEZ
DAILY NEWS FEATURE WRITER
Wednesday, November 2nd, 2005

While "Jarhead" depicts U.S. Marines showing bravery in battle during the first Gulf War, it hardly earned a hearty hoo-waa! from the Corps.

The USMC refused to assist the producers with the making of the upcoming film, which is based on former Marine sniper Anthony Swofford's controversial memoir of his 1991 tour of duty in Desert Storm.

"In most cases, we do cooperate," says Lt. Tryiokasus Brown, deputy director of the U.S. Marine Corps Motion Picture and Television Liaison Office in Los Angeles.

"But we have particular instructions from the Department of Defense that we follow, and the original script [for "Jarheads"] did not meet D.O.D. requirements," adds Brown. "It did not show a feasible interpretation of military life or operations or policies, and those are the guidelines we follow."

Though Brown could not be specific about the reasons for the USMC's reluctance to aid the production, it's not hard to see why.

Published two years ago, Swofford's "Jarhead: A Marine's Chronicle of the Gulf War and Other Battles" was both lauded and lambasted for its brutally honest look at life in the modern military.

The movie, which opens Friday, likewise contains scenes of young Marines engaging in certain activities - ranging from silly to sexual to psychotic - that would make John Wayne wince with embarrassment.

"Those are [Swofford's] personal memoirs, and we understand it's totally entertainment," says Brown. "It's not meant to be a documentary."

Yet one Marine who has read the book and seen the film has no problems with the screen adaptation.

"I found a few things in the book to be maybe a little inaccurate, maybe embellished," says the corpsman, who wished to remain anonymous. "However, some of the relationships in the movie seemed to be true to life."

During and after World War II, every studio produced films that encouraged a war-weary nation -- and showed American soldiers, sailors, airmen, Guardsmen and Marines as committed, courageous and compassionate. But that was the "good war" --...thats because Hollywood knew it would be closed down if America lost the war.....They have fealt no threat since then.

Lance Corporal Aaron Mankin

Lance Corporal Aaron Mankin of Edmond, one of the Marines Kelso interviewed live on KRXO from Iraq was injured in the recent US offensive along the Syrian border.  He is currently undergoing treatment at the US base in San Antonio.  We are raising funds to assist Aaron's family with the costs of travel to and from San Antonio.  A trust has been set up at any Mid First Bank "The Aaron Mankin Family Trust".  A little, or a lot...your donations can be made at any Mid First Bank location.

[ Mr. Swofford maintains it is an accurate depiction of his military experience, from boot camp -- where he claims to have been abused and belittled by a maniacal drill instructor --]

It's hard to break down elitist attitudes of overblown self worth and value and to make a man out of a girlie-boy.
Appantly, it did not work for Swofford.

Any chance we could provoke the Hollywood liberals into a riot so that we could send the National Guard in to smack them around for awhile?

USMC 81-85 and I personally think ol' Ollie ought to loosen his tie a little bit. I like the movie and saw nothing wrong or grossly inaccurate except field Marines do not look like they spend time in the weight room only the REMFs look like that. The price of the hooch seemed cheap, but it could have been some real crap.
