WHITE HOUSE: Setting the Record Straight: Sen. Kennedy On Iraq
White House ^ | November 11, 2005

Posted on 11/11/2005 3:07:21 PM PST by West Coast Conservative

"It is regrettable that Senator Kennedy has chosen Veteran's Day to continue leveling baseless and false attacks that send the wrong signal to our troops and our enemy during a time of war. It is also regrettable that Senator Kennedy has found more time to say negative things about President Bush then he ever did about Saddam Hussein. If America were to follow Senator Kennedy's foreign policy, Saddam Hussein would not only still be in power, he would be oppressing and occupying Kuwait."

- Scott McClellan, White House Press Secretary

Sen. Kennedy On Iraq

Sen. Kennedy Said Saddam Hussein Was Developing WMDs: "We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." (Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA), Remarks At The Johns Hopkins School Of Advanced International Studies, Washington, D.C., 9/27/02)

Sen. Kennedy: "Saddam Hussein Is A Dangerous Figure. He's Got Dangerous Weapons." (CBS' "Face The Nation," 10/6/02)

Sen. Kennedy Now Says The President Manipulated Facts About Iraq's WMDs: "'Instead of providing open and honest answers about how we will achieve success in Iraq and allow our troops to begin to come home,' Kennedy said, 'the president reverted to the same manipulation of facts to justify a war we never should have fought.'" (Deb Riechmann, "Bush Forcefully Attacks Critics Of The War In Iraq," Associated Press, 11/11/05)

Sen. Kennedy Opposed Removing Saddam Hussein From Kuwait. (S.J.Res.2, CQ Vote #2: Adopted 52-47: R 42-2; D 10-45, 1/12/91, Kennedy Voted Nay)

Sen. Kennedy Opposed Removing Saddam Hussein From Power. (H. J. Res. 114, CQ Vote #237: Passed 77-23: R 48- 1; D 29-21; I 0-1, 10/11/02, Kennedy Voted Nay)

That's easy to answer. The people who elect them are just as vile as they are.

Sen Kennedy's strategy for the War on Terror is akin to driving off a bridge.

Well since we did in fact find some of the WMD post war... and since in fact Sadaam was gaming the UN with the Oil For Food debacle and had full intentions of obtaining and using WMD on the U.S. and Israel and since in fact weapons inspectors were not being granted full access and since in fact Al-Qeada was operating out of northern Iraq pre and post war.. The conclusions about whether or not the intelligence was correct or partially correct at the time is that the U.S. is much more safe today then before March 03 and every Demorat senator should be made to comment on those facts now. Like Rush Limbaugh says if they believe the rhetoric that they are spouting then they should be called as defense character witnesses in the Sadaam trial. These honest noble Democratic Senators may well just get Sadaam re-instated to power in Iraq.

• Found: 1.77 metric tons of enriched uranium

• Found: 1,500 gallons of chemical weapons

• Found: Roadside bomb loaded with sarin gas

• Found: 1,000 radioactive materials--ideal for radioactive dirty bombs

• Found: 17 chemical warheads--some containing cyclosarin, a nerve agent five times more powerful than sarin

Anyone of the above WMD smuggled by terrorists into the U.S. and used would cause massive casualties.

Quite correct. Hasn't been done since World War II.

What would be the advantages and disadvantages of having Congress formally declare war (politically, etc.)?

Is there an audio file of McClellan's slam on Kennedy?
Can McClellan keep this up (I certainly hope so!)?

Yes it is.

If the Resolution is the SAME as a Declaration, why didn't Congress issue a Declaration?

Considering the lack of spines on the Republican side, and the lack of morals on the democrat side, I'll give you a hint:

The Resolution is a Short-Cut, a weakling's way out, a War Lite. Congress can always take a Resolution back, but a Declaration of War is only ended by Victory or Surrender.

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

I'll give you a big clue.

The declaration of war on Japan on December 8th 1941 was a Joint Resolution.

They are one and the same.

The White House awaited counter offensive against the traitors in the democrat party and their media whores has begun. It is about time.

I think the recent bad news for Bush and the GOP has shifted the White House back into full-tilt campaign mode - which is were Bush excels. It also may signify that Rove feels that he's more or less in the clear with respect to the Fitzgerald investigation and is taking a clearer role in managing the administration PR.

Excellent! The public will hopefully see the truth about the media. Today I saw CCCP CNN attack the president... all their notes were prepared for them, but I figure that Bush is prepared and this is part of a well thought out, on going campaign. I think the final straw was Libby, which meant open war. The 'uniter' phase didn't work though the intentions were good...
