Take a kid to a gun show. Take your son or daughter. Instruct them on the no touch/ask permission etiquette of these events. They'll be hooked.

This is a very fun approach that pays dividends. I have been doing this for decades, and I still have a blast doing it.
One of my more memorable episodes was taking my 17 year old daughter and her friend (both absolutely stunning girls) to a gun show with them carrying a couple of rifles around for me. It turned more than one set of eyes and they remember it to this day. I have had a lot of fun with this, and I urge everyone else to try it. You will be glad that you did.
