Is Hillary a centrist? Let's look at her votes

President Bill Clinton was elected in 1992, and I'm still trying to figure out exactly what a "New Democrat" is. Specifically, was the phrase anything more than a cynical Clintonian effort to make liberal Democrats appear more moderate?

Looking ahead, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), who must be considered the early Democratic front-runner for the White House in 2008, seems to be adopting a similar strategy. Over the past year, much has been made in various media accounts of Clinton's leaving her liberalism behind in favor of the center.

I already rue the 8 years that she was elected the first time.

I'm not sure she's going to make that an issue. Do you think it would be advantageous for the GOP to run a pro-choice candidate?

It'll never work. And it's the only thing they have to run on.

[M]y bewilderment over the New Democrat label is not just an academic inquiry. Ironically, I sought clarification at an academic conference at Hofstra University late last week. After all, it was titled "William Jefferson Clinton: The 'New Democrat' from Hope."

Various speakers tackled what a New Democrat was. Perhaps the most exhaustive account was presented by Al From, founder of the Democratic Leadership Council and referred to as the intellectual godfather of the New Democrats. He emphasized opportunity, responsibility and community, and served up phrases like "modernization of liberalism," "forging a third way," and my personal favorite, "empowering government over bureaucracy" - whatever that means. Paul Begala, a political consultant for the 1992 campaign, added that Clinton offered "modified populism."

All of this hardly clarified things. The former president only muddied the waters further with a mind-numbing speech Thursday that defended his administration. It was a laundry list that included lots of ways he spent taxpayers' money.

In the context of the conference speeches and Clinton's record, including his big tax hike, harsh class warfare attacks and failed attempt at socialized medicine, the New Democrat label [didn't seem]... substantive....

In the end, much of the New Democrat philosophy was the old Democrat philosophy spruced up with the rhetoric of moderation. Is that also the case with Sen. Clinton's so-called move to the center?

Well, it certainly is hard to detect any centrism in her overall Senate voting record. Each year, for example, she has scored 95 percent with the left-wing Americans for Democratic Action....

One key vote and some occasional centrist talk do not make a moderate. Just as Bill Clinton the New Democrat was more about political posturing than policy reality, Hillary Clinton's move to the center lacks credibility. It is simply Clintonian.

THE INCOMPETENCE OF HILLARY CLINTONbump

This legacy confab is in and of itself proof certain of clinton's deeply flawed character, and a demonstration in real time of the way in which the clinton years were about a legacy that was incidentally a presidency.

Madeleine Albright captured the essence of this dysfunctional presidency best when she explained why clinton couldn't go after bin Laden.

According to Richard Miniter, the Albright revelation occurred at the cabinet meeting that would decide the disposition of the USS Cole bombing by al Qaeda [that is to say, that would decide to do what it had always done when a "bimbo" was not spilling the beans on the clintons: Nothing]. Only Clarke wanted to retaliate militarily for this unambiguous act of war.

Albright explained that a [sham] Mideast accord would yield [if not peace for the principals, surely] a Nobel Peace Prize for clinton. Kill or capture bin Laden and clinton could kiss the accord and the Peace Prize good-bye.

If clinton liberalism, smallness, cowardice, corruption, perfidy--and, to borrow a phrase from Andrew Cuomo, clinton cluelessness--played a part, it was, in the end, the Nobel Peace Prize that produced the puerile pertinacity that enabled the clintons to shrug off terrorism's global danger.

how the clintons are handling the hillary dud factor
They turned our bridge to the 21st century into a tunnel back into the 19th century. Back us out of that Republican tunnel, fill it in, go back across the bridge.... We'll have a giant celebration when we come back to Columbus in 2020. There's nothing more wonderful than making dreams come true.

Missus clinton is a dud.

I could say she has all of bill clinton's baggage and none of his charm, except I don't find bill clinton charming. What she lacks, in my view, is lubricant. Snake oil. She grates.

It's more than simple dislike. You don't want to see her; and you definitely don't want to hear her.

Missus clinton is everyman's worst nightmare: ex-wife, fishwife, frigid wife, mother-in-law; worse, the abusive Nazi commandant in the Lina Wertmuller masterpiece. When she humiliates, which is always, she dons the military-issue undershirt, she grabs the whip.

The clintons are clearly aware of this problem and are attempting to mitigate it with veneer.

Their first ploy is to pushpoll to artificially jack up missus clinton's numbers; this is a relatively easy task, given a compliant press. This illusion of electability is intended to fool the voters, activate the herd mentality and ultimately fool the smart money of the David Geffen-Harold Ickes stripe.

It won't work. Missus clinton has 100% name recognition. Any vote she doesn't already have, she won't get. Conversely, many voters have 0% information on the clinton abuses of power and utter failures. From this it follows that many votes she has today, she won't have tomorrow.

Their second ploy is to conflate "bill" and "hillary." "The clintons" become a single construct. Missus clinton arrogates bill's "bridge to the 21st century " as "theirs." And, by lifting the lyrics straight from Pinocchio, she becomes "the man from 'hope'."

The danger here for missus clinton is that with the bridge and the hope come the abuses and the utter failures.

AFTERWORD:

Who in heaven's name is writing missus clinton's speeches? They make her sound like a cross between Pinocchio on Halcyon and a clueless tourist from Park Ridge, Illinois driving into Manhattan during rush hour. Oops.

And the plagiarizing... I mean, the clintons are shameless. And it isn't only Pinocchio.

In 2002, I wrote that the bridge to the 21st century was, arguably, clinton's most delusional conceit, that it overshot the mark by at least 1400 years.

To be fair, missus clinton's 19th-century reference is to that <yawn> retrograde 'retrograde Republicans' cliché, whereas my 7th-century reference is to the retrograde-in-fact islamofascist terrorists, whose jihadi declarations and acts of war against us the clintons willfully ignored for eight long years--allowing al Qaeda to grow exponentially in strength and reach, setting us up--very nicely, thank you--for 9/11 and its cataclysmic aftermath.

"Hillary is very scary because the MSM is telling the public..."

Why do Left wing liberals have the corner on the news media? Do they have a Mafia for protection so that no one can compete with them?

You're welcome. Use the information for Good and not Evil. ;) It's a very handy resource for shooting down liberals. They can lie all day long in the media, but the votes they cast in the House and Senate ARE recorded.

Of course, they're banking on the fact that your average Joe Sixpack doesn't realize that...

It is interesting you mention evil. We are studying this in church now and I just finished THE SREWTAPE LETTERS..... In my discussions I like to use facts and logic and this will be a great resource.....I can always present this information and still people will believe what they want in spite of information given....

Hillary is very scary because the MSM is telling the public she is a centrist when she is a raging liberal.

It worked for Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

Hilary is anything that will get people to vote for her.

But she is actually a hard core socialists whose main lust is for power and more power.

She could lust a little for Janet Reno on the side.

If she comes out pro-choice, anti-illegal-immigration, and anti iraq war, she might be a shoo in.

She is definitely pro-choice, that is her only solid position. Solid being defined as saying something and voting the same way.

She will have trouble in either the primary or, should it go that far, the general election on the other two though. She has come out against illegal immigration but votes in favor of the illegals all the time. She may have voted for the war but she has done nothing but go crazy against it since then.

Those two things should be enough to get people to see the truth about her. There is no "center". The things she says contrasted to the votes she casts show that. The only thing she cares about is scoring political points, and amassing power etc...

There is a reason why senators hardly ever win elections and this is it. They are required to cast too many votes over the course of their terms. It puts them on record supporting things that later become unfavorable. Some senators stand up and say "Yes, I believe in that to this day". Libs *NEVER* do that. They always try to *nuance* their position with double speak and they lose because, in general, people can smell BS.

Not only is her senate record way left of center, but her ability to get anything done in the senate is even more dismal.
In five years as the most influential Democrat in the Senate, Hillary has managed to get the following laws and resolutions enacted:

• Establish the Kate Mullany National Historic Site
• Support the goals and ideals of Better Hearing and Speech Month
• Recognize the Ellis Island Medal of Honor
• Name courthouse after Thurgood Marshall
• Name courthouse after James L. Watson
• Name post office after John A. O'Shea
• Designate August 7, 2003, as National Purple Heart Recognition Day
• Support the goals and ideals of National Purple Heart Recognition Day
• Honor the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton on the bicentennial of his death
• Congratulate the Syracuse University Orange Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
• Congratulate the Le Moyne College Dolphins Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship
• Establish the 225th Anniversary of the American Revolution Commemorative Program
• Name post office after Sergeant Riayan A. Tejeda
• Honor Shirley Chisholm for her service to the nation and express condolences on her death
• Honor John J. Downing, Brian Fahey, and Harry Ford, firefighters who lost their lives on duty.

Only five of Clinton's bills have any substance:

• Extend period of unemployment assistance to victims of 9/11
• Pay for city projects in response to 9/11
• Assist landmine victims in other countries
• Assist family caregivers in accessing affordable respite care
• Designate part of the National Forest System in Puerto Rico as protected in the Wilderness Preservation System

I think this speaks volumes about the value we New Yorkers are getting from the Jr. Senator. Conclusion -- She is still all show and no go. Amen

Voting records mean next to nothing when it comes to a presidential election.

Your average soccer mom doesn't give a hoot about how Hillary voted on aid to Limburgia.
She only worries about how she will vote on health care for the kids.

Same thing with seniors and SS.
