You are a disgrace and why an avowed DEM LIBERAL, such as you, is allowed to remain on FR, is a continual mystery.

Because, like Rush says, it's good to keep a few liberals around just to remind us of what liberalism stands for.

It is enitrely possible you are the stupidest person in the world.

LOL! Responding to your factless post makes me feel like a stupid person, too. Please see post #51 for a more sensible, rational response to the issue. Have a nice day!

I'm a soldier's mother ...

You have my sympathy. I surely hope your child does not join the thousands of Iraqis and Americans who have lost their lives because of Bush's sensless and counterproductive war. Please remember that no Americans were being killed by Iraqis before Bush invaded Iraq in 2003. The slaughter will only end when fine parents like yourself finally come to your senses and the Bush war apparatus is expunged from the offices they temporarily occupy.

The only downside to a more humane approach is that sadistic christofascists in the Bush Administration won't have any fun.

"Christofascists"...that's a new term. Please define in your own words exactly what you mean by this.

Surely, you don't mean to apply it to this "wrap" artist:

I don't think it applies to these guys, either:

One thing's for sure: you aren't taken very seriesly by me or the vast majority of my good Freeper brethren.

Years from now, after a free and democratic Iraq and a free and democratic Afghanistan will have long been the examples about which freedom starts to shine in Iran and Syria... When for the first time in hundreds of years the middle east is exporting culture and art instead of death and blood and hate...

You'll be pretending you were for it the entire time. Hypocrite.

Noticeably your post did not predict how many years it would take for democracy to "start to shine" in Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, and Syria. Informed observers think that the amount of time for those events to arise approaches infinity. In the Philippines, it took from about 1899 (when the U.S. first invaded) until 1947 for a democratic government to be elected. The Viet Nam example does not support your argument either.

Instead of parroting vague fantasies of the Bush administration, how about fleshing out your predictions with a finite number of years that I send back to you in 10 or 20 or 30 years, showing you how wrong you were to believe in Bush's lies. You wouldn't believe me if I merely parroted somebody else in my posts, would you?

I have no idea how long it will take, nor is that very important. Sure, the sooner the better, but there is no knowable clock. This isn't a soccer game.

I understand how a liberal might see "freedom" as a vague fantasy, since they're so good at denying it to others. But it isn't vague to me. To me it is the only hope for an ancient part of the planet wrecked by centuries of despotism and poisoned culture.

I am sorry that you feel that President Bush has lied to you. He hasn't lied to me.

But none of this really matters. There is little point in pursuing "honest" discussion. You hate the war because of your hatred for Bush, not the other way around. There is nothing that Bush could do that would ever make you happy, so I'm not going to pretend to make arguments that you pretend to reply to.

But this "lie" you claim, presumably about WMD... well, on this be clear: Saddam doesn't have them now. It must really nag at you, that even you can be a little relieved about that.

:-)

Amen to that, Ramius.

Informed observers? Can you provide a link to these observers? Are they the same kinds of observers who would have predicted, prior to 1947, that the Philippines would also have to wait an 'infinite' amount of time for a democracy? Does it really matter that it took the Philippines 48 years to get their democracy launched or is it more important that they now have a democracy they have tailored to meet their needs? Should the Iraqis be denied a chance at democracy because you can't get a finite answer on the length of time it will take to establish it and have it take hold? Would you rather put Saddam back in power to run his dictator-like 'presidency'? Were our own forefathers able to flesh out a prediction with a finite number of years it would take to establish our democracy, end ties with England, get the whole thing running? Did it happen for us overnight, without turmoil?

...christofascists...

Aaaah, Christofascists. Very punny. A nice play on words, on Islamofascist. Which, by the way, is generally capitalized, as a proper noun, a courtesy you did not extend to the so-called Christofascists. Are you a Christian? Are you somehow exempt from this description? America has a large Christian population, who's included in this libelous description and who is not? Who makes that determination? You? Yet you've decided that members of the Bush administration are indeed included. Wow.

More likely, he/she will join the ranks of thousands of soldiers who have proudly served and return with stories of successes, and losses, but more of the successes and stories of grateful Iraqis, happy to have the Americans and other allies help, happy to be free of Saddam and his regime, even while acknoledging the long and arduous road ahead as some of these Saddamists won't go quietly into the night. You should acquaint yourself, Murrymom, with the soldiers and their stories. Some are told here, on FR. Some live in my neighborhood and yours. Most will tell you, it was well worth it and they'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Your comment is absolutely true, fortunecookie, and I do so appreciate it. Our son has joined the ranks of those who proudly served in Iraq and who witnessed Iraq and its people face to face. The truth is out there for those who care to learn truth instead of spreading gossip and lies. You gave good advice too. People need to talk to the soldiers and hear their stories.

Ummm... Friendly note to the NYT:

We don't torture detainees!

Go get your English dictionary and look up the word. You seem to have conveniently forgotten what it means.

Thanks.

We are so pleased that brave men and women like you son, those who are able to, can go to Iraq and help them rebuild their nation. And we keep them in our prayers, including prayers for safe return. I have always felt this way, but in recent months have been priveleged to personally speak with a few from my own area and hear their stories. Almost all would go again and all are proud of what they were able to be a part of. The Kerry's and Kennedy's of our nation, and those they influence, would like us to believe that each soldier is dragged into a battle that is unwanted by the Iraqis and they are unwilling participants whose time is wasted. All lies. Even as we prepare packages and cards for the soldiers in my area, some grumble, repeating just such lies. It can be disheartening. This kind of person, even when confronted with a returning soldier filled with heartwarming stories, will continue to wallow in those untruths. I'm just happy to keep putting the word out there and pleased that others are, too. God bless you and your family. To repeat your good point:

The truth is out there for those who care to learn truth instead of spreading gossip and lies.

We won't soon be hearing this from the MSM. So we need to keep spreading the word!
