A SAD DAY IN AMERICA
Today is the first day that Medicare recipients can enroll in the latest wealth transfer from the young to the old: Medicare prescription drug coverage. This is the largest expansion of government in decades...and it was all at the behest of a Republican president. Over the coming decades, the Medicare prescription drug benefit will cost trillions of dollars...the Gimme Generation will clean up and our children will be paying for it the rest of their lives.
And what was the point? George W. Bush, the biggest spender in the history of the republic, pushed the prescription drug plan because it seemed to be the perfect vote-buying scheme. Give greater government benefits to the most reliable voters in history and they'll love you forever. All that got him was to 37% in the polls.
The sad fact of socialism is that no government spending is ever enough, which is the problem with the welfare state. As proof of this, look no further than the media coverage of the the new plan. Already, the media is bashing the prescription drug plan....there's too many choices! What people really want is one choice...the government covers everything and the rest of us pay for it all.
A sad day in America, but unfortunately, not surprising. Thanks to government schools churning out a new army of leftists daily, it won't be long before the takeover is complete.
Just let that sink in for a bit.
Marching towards socialized medicine bump...
I agree 100% with Neal about this. The gimme generation is going to banrupt us all.

I become eligible for Medicare in August (2006) I retired in 2004 due to a very bad back and had to pick up my own insurance. Currently the medical insurance costs us $1900+ per month and my meds (post heart attack/bypass surgery, prostate cancer and severe spinal problems) cost me about $260/month. At this rate, my savings will be gone in less than 8 years. We have NO payments other than monthly purchases, e.g. food, gas, electric...etc.
I hate medicare and all other forms of Govt intervention but I am in the position most my age are that we have no other choice. The typical government "trap".
the latest wealth transfer from the young to the old...
and
...the Gimme Generation will clean up and our children will be paying for it the rest of their lives.
These statements say it all. I used to feel sorry for the elderly having to pay a hunert dollars+ per script. Then my mom had hip replacement a year ago and she bragged about Medicare pays for.....All the way down to the pedicure and free shoes. Understand that you can't bend over to clip your nails when you have replacement surgery but why can't a neighbor or family member do it???!!!!
After that 4 weeks of watching Medicare dish it out I no longer felt sorry for ANY elderly. Unfortunately, the Veterans Admin. is almost as bad but I know a growing number of vets who refuse their services.
Both sides -- Republicans and Democrats -- have drifted significantly leftward.
An uncle of mine who put in 22 years in the Navy is one of them. You couldn't pay him to go anywhere near a VA hospital - he says he'd like to live for a while longer.
Go ahead and laugh but this is the reason why I am seriously considering voting for a third party candidate next election. It has become crystal clear that both the pubs and dims have morphed into just two different forms of socialist parties.
The only real thing that would keep me from doing this is that the third party that I like is completely wrong when it comes to national security and the WOT. If they would change their tune on that I would vote for them in a second.
Any ideas on how to get a third party in a position where they have a chance of getting into a place of leadership. I think it will take years of working from local up to national. A friend of mine said we should only work within the two party system, since a third party will never have any impact. To me, it's like saying we need to work on our government school system from the inside, instead of considering alternate educational means. I know it doesn't sound the same, but I hope you know what I mean.
"I'm old...gimme gimme gimme."
George W. Bush was just following in the footsteps of the "Great Communicator" who accepted the premise that in order to finance the destruction of Soviet Communism, he had to allow a Democrat social spending panty raid on the treasury. In President Bush's case, he had to keep up funding for the War on Terror, without Democrat complaints that the money could be better spent on items like prescription drug coverage here at home. The gambit didn't work, of course, but he had to try and win one for the Gipper('s memory).
We got problems. The generations having to pay for this hopefully will rebel. The problem is whom are they going to support? The Republicans have stunk things up badly by passing this socialist crap. The dims are beyond insane. The LP is not exactly full of grownups -- they don't understand national sovereignty at all. The result is apathy and whomever has the most brutal will to dominate us could win.
Somewhere Karl Marx has a big grin on his face doesn't he?
Because our families own bills, like doctor appointments for my chronic condition, three extended hospital stays of last year that we will be paying off for the next five years, the costs of living while raising two children... and the increase of taxation to cover this medicare coverage, my own family has less and less disposable income. We live VERY modestly while trying to raise two children. Why? Because we have NO disposable income!
I firmly believe that the cost of medicare plus other "gimmies" will leave my family bankrupt in the future, with little to nothing to pass on to our own children. Is this fair, I ask?
I think not! We could have easily filed for a medical bankruptcy, but feel morally obligated to repay what we owe.
I hope those who receive this medical coverage will THANK ME. I find this completely unfair.
Gee, did it ever dawn on these fedgov imbeciles to investigate the pricing practices of these drug companies that have caused drug prices to increase so dramatically? This program looks like carte blanche to gouge the taxpayers once again.
What were those deductions from our pay checks for? We were told it was to pay for medicare. If it did pay for medicare, then Boortz's assertion is dishonest. If it didn't pay for medicare, then we were robbed, and Boortz's assertion is still dishonest.
You gotta love those "fiscally conservative" Republicans!
Gee, did it ever dawn on these fedgov imbeciles to investigate the pricing practices of these drug companies that have caused drug prices to increase so dramatically?
Then they'd be out of a job...........
If a conservative 3rd party started picking up 5-10% in the polls, the Kennebunkbots at least might pretend to be conservative. Alas, we didn't even have a 3rd party on the ballot here in Virginia last week.
