CHENEY FIGHTS BACK

CHENEY FIGHTS BACK Wed Nov 16 2005 18:56:46 ET Excerpts As Prepared For Delivery Tonight by Vice President Cheney

THE VICE PRESIDENT: "As most of you know, I have spent a lot of years in public service, and first came to work in Washington, D.C. back in the late 1960s. I know what it’s like to operate in a highly charged political environment, in which the players on all sides of an issue feel passionately and speak forcefully.

In such an environment people sometimes lose their cool, and yet in Washington you can ordinarily rely on some basic measure of truthfulness and good faith in the conduct of political debate. But in the last several weeks we have seen a wild departure from that tradition.

And the suggestion that’s been made by some U. S. senators that the President of the United States or any member of this Administration purposely misled the American people on pre-war intelligence is one of the most dishonest and reprehensible charges ever aired in this city...

Some of the most irresponsible comments have, of course, come from politicians who actually voted in favor of authorizing force against Saddam Hussein. These are elected officials who had access to the intelligence, and were free to draw their own conclusions.

They arrived at the same judgment about Iraq’s capabilities and intentions that was made by this Administration and by the previous Administration. There was broad-based, bipartisan agreement that Saddam Hussein was a threat … that he had violated U.N. Security Council Resolutions … and that, in a post-9/11 world, we couldn’t afford to take the word of a dictator who had a history of WMD programs, who had excluded weapons inspectors, who had defied the demands of the international community, who had been designated an official state sponsor of terror, and who had committed mass murder.

Those are facts.

What we’re hearing now is some politicians contradicting their own statements and making a play for political advantage in the middle of a war. The saddest part is that our people in uniform have been subjected to these cynical and pernicious falsehoods day in and day out. American soldiers and Marines are out there every day in dangerous conditions and desert temperatures – conducting raids, training Iraqi forces, countering attacks, seizing weapons, and capturing killers – and back home a few opportunists are suggesting they were sent into battle for a lie.

The President and I cannot prevent certain politicians from losing their memory, or their backbone – but we’re not going to sit by and let them rewrite history.

We’re going to continue throwing their own words back at them. And far more important, we’re going to continue sending a consistent message to the men and women who are fighting the war on terror in Iraq, Afghanistan, and many other fronts.

We can never say enough how much we appreciate them, and how proud they make us. They and their families can be certain: That this cause is right … and the performance of our military has been brave and honorable … and this nation will stand behind our fighting forces with pride and without wavering until the day of victory.

Developing...

Did Bill Clinton "intentionally mislead the American people" by "dressing up the intel" just to launch Operation Desert Fox?

Thanks. I appreciate that picture. In a letter to the POTUS and VPOTUS some time back I expressed what a pleasure it would be for me to fly wingman for the POTUS in an old F102, and to stand with Dick in one of those quiet streams, cast flies, hook em, reel them in then gently release them for yet another day, and discuss "things".

As one studies American history, one can often sense when the Almighty through reasons perhaps unknown in full, allows certain leaders to come into existence to lead this country.

I sense the current two have been groomed for this juncture in time with specific goals in mind by HE who created all those things shown in the picture you shared.

Harry Reid said that? I'm shocked and appalled! Not.

"Never in my life, have I seen the level of unpatriotism, and total lack of respect or manners, as the folks over there display every single day. Absolutely no, not even a semblance of, class. NONE!"

We're watching the natural progression of the worldwide organized hard left (WOHL). They are the heirs to the Communists, but communism per se has become secondary in their movement.

Nonetheless, emotionally and "spiritually" if such a word can be used--- they are the same as the Communists. To understand their "manners", think back on the behavior of Communists.

"As much as I disliked Clinton, I would never have thought of being that vile against the President of my country..."

Members of the WOHL are part of an army---but a new kind of army, a civilian army. Increasingly, they dispense with common courtesies and decency whenever they are an impediment to achieving their Leftist goals.

Thank you, Mr. Cheney!

Furthermore, if ever President Bush feels the compassionate need to give Bill Clinton "something to do", remind him what side Clinton is on..please!

God bless our Vice President, Dick Cheney, for so eloquently stating the TRUTH!!!! God bless our troops who tonight have to be rejoicing as well!! It's been long overdue for our President and Vice President, and others who really do "get it", to speak out AND BE HEARD! BRAVO!!

It's times like this that I truly wish Cheney were our President. He's so smart, smoothe and articulate. I can't help but think that if Cheney were President, he'd have put an end to this lying nonsense long ago. It never would have had the chance to grow ANY legs.

Sad to say but the Press Secretary down to the Bush Public Relations team has been woefully inept. If they don't get their acts together soon, the dems may just make a clean sweep of Congress next election. Maybe Bush will notice the value of Cheney's speeches and make some critical and overdue changes.

"Indeed. I really want him to run in 08, and he can only help himself and the party now if he intends to."

I believe Cheney is the greatest living American.

However, we have to face reality. He is very ill. He has given his all for his country, but I really think when Bush's term is over it will be his time to rest. Notice, he has always stated unambiguously that he would not run for President.

I am hoping that George Allen will work out.

the dems may think they got traction on the Katrina hits against Bush, but no one I know was impressed.....they blamed the mayor and governor.....and all those wasted school buses. I think the dems are delusional.

If Cheney were healthy enough, yes. It seems to me that the President's recent problems are in part, a result of Cheney not been well enough to take a very active role.

Bush needs help, badly. He needs it soon. Some absolutely top-notch people must be found that Bush can have confidence in.

My beloved Bigtime. How I adore him

You too, huh. I just think he's the greatest. What a man, and what a patriot.

There are days when I look at some of the lying, traitorous, whining, opportunistic elected representatives of this country and wonder if these people have any shred of patriotism or pride in America or Americans any more. And I wonder if the people who elect them have any pride in America.

But when I see and hear our wonderful VP, it reminds me that there are still politicians and statesmen in this country we can be proud to call our fellow Americans.

Or how about his "dressing up the intel" when taking us to war in Bosnia over the "mass graves" that have never been located?

If the Dems don't reign this in, the SOTU address could be the political MOAB we have been waiting for.

I keep fantasizing that Bush is pulling a rope-a-dope on the Democrats and that soon there will be a bombastic press conference from a NEW Press Secretary about the CIA & FBI uncovering numerous democrat high level elected officials who are/were engaged in treason and bribery.

Frankly, unless we get news like that, I'm sickened and devastated that this administration will not defend itself and demand the truth be told in public discourse. This negative democrat & MSM drumbeat is being trumpeted around the world & it needs to STOP NOW!

10000 plus pages of Iraqi Defense intelligence documents that needed to be translated. With all the leaks I am surprised we haven't heard about the results. However, a little noticed blurb a few days ago indicated that the Dems didn't want these findings to be included in their investigation of the runup to the war.
