CAPITOL HILL (AP) -- There's been heated debate on the House floor regarding a GOP effort to force a vote on Congressman John Murtha's call for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq.
Democrats charge the effort is a cheap political stunt and a personal attack.
Instead of offering Murtha's resolution, Republicans plan to reject a similarly worded resolution offered by one of their own to show support for US troops.
Democrats say that's a "counterfeit" resolution, charging it guts Murtha's thoughtful approach to the situation.
The fiery, emotional debate climaxed when Ohio Congresswoman Jean Schmidt, who is the lowest in seniority, recounted a message a Marine colonel wanted to send to Murtha.
She said he told her that "cowards cut and run, Marines never do."
Democrats booed and shouted her down, bringing the House to a standstill.
Geeze, It is a good thing I didn't go into politics....
I can't believe that Congress had to vote on whether or not to TAKE a vote on this....
So, I'f I'm following C-SPAN correctly, they just passed the vote to take a vote????
The results : ALL the dems voted to NOT take a vote, joined by a few RINOS. but enough non-rinos got up enough gumption for the vote to take a vote to pass.

Congressman Murtha may NOT be a coward, but immediate withdrawal of the troops, especially in the middle of a victory well worth the effort, is. The marine is exactly RIGHT.
A withdrawal would mean certain defeat. WE CANNOT WITHDRAW and must finish this war to its certain victorious end.
Thank God for the Republicans and for President George Bush. Most of all, thank God for our brave troops, heroes all.

He wants the draft re-instated.

He claims only one persons visits Walter Reed more than he does! Well, we won't list humility as one of your virtues, sir.

Wants troops re-deployed. War can't be won militarily. ?

This has been one of the worst weeks for us since our son was deployed. Hearing about Jean Schmidt's statements and then reviewing her website were a bright spot and gave me hope again.
Good for Rep. Bob Simmons (R. CT)... He just mentioned the millions who died in SEA because we cut & ran... He must be reading my posts as I type them.
Murtha keeps reading letters from the spouses & parents of soldiers and marines.... NOT the service members themselves...; But he keeps trying to put the words of surrender in the soldiers mouths, not bereaved and worried loved-ones.... Even assuming that the letters are real, and not something he made up of whole cloth.... He puts no names to these letters of cowardice.
Murtha is beneath contempt.... But nonetheless, my contempt for him continues to grow beyond bearing.
