Murtha allowed himself to be used as a political pawn in the Democrat's anti-Bush agenda. And he is paying the price.

Bingo.

"Just repeal the 17th ammendment and take the politics out of the Senate. Problem solved."

You are more right than most people know.

The original form of the Senate respected the founders belief in the checks and balances of federalism. Senators were not directly elected because they did not represent people as much as they represented their elected state government. You have elections in a state and those elected state representatives send their representatives to the federal legislature.

You can trace alot of the growth of federal power to the aftermath of the 17th amendment - direct election of US Senators.

We used to call it “pitting” a car. No helmets, no airbags, not even a seat belt. Often we would get up on two wheels, or even roll completely over, and it was all just that much more fun.

So "Gargantua" casts his vote to continue fighting in Iraq with "no helmets, no airbags, not even a seat belt."

Whoa! You sure are full of gung-ho "bravado", dude.

But I'm pretty certain that Jack Murtha would call you "stupid".

IMHO, you should be nominated for a Darwin Award!

...but that gives no one the right to speak against our Commander and Chief.

-----
I can see speaking against the Commander in Chief. We all did it when Clintoon was in there. And we were justified in doing so. He and she were both lying pieces of crap. But to out and out lie on ANYBODY is a whole 'nother story. All the DemocRATS are simply lying to try to get their power back. Or the power they think should be their birth-right. They're even lying to themselves. I don't believe the polls. I think a majority of the people see right through them.

I agree. IMHO- a limiting all politicians to a single term would be greatest single reform we could make to our system. Six years for president and senate, four years for house of reps. AS things stand now all these losers do is campaign for reelection from the first day they are in office. New blood is needed.

(Of course, politicians will vote for any sort of term limits about ten minutes after we are ice scatting in Hades.)

Thanks, Knarf. The irony on both sides of this (Kerry's and Murtha's) deserved comment.

The *real* reason for Murtha's change in position is a lot sadder. He was redistricted into a more Democratic district -- one with a lot more "traditional" Democrats. You know, the leftist moonbats. So he has been running left to avoid a primary fight that he just might lose to a true-believer moonbat. Country might suffer, but what is more important? The country or John Murtha's career.

Bet on his career every time.

"It took a lot of nerve to do what he did. He traded in years of hard earned credibility to try to score political points for his party."

Exactly. How about Kerry saying that he won't stand for a soldier to be smeared in Congress?!!!!

ROFLMAO!!!

The Dems, and Murtha, are doing everything they can to gin-up hatred for America amongst the mullahs and Imams in the Middle-east, giving them sound bites to use in the hopes that they'll recruit enough exploding morons to cause more harm to our troops.

The reference to "no seat belts" was allegorical, and not a suggestion as to how our troops should fight in Iraq, Willie.

BTW, Jimgib says "Hi".

Well there's no question as to how our troops should fight in Iraq -- they should fight to WIN. The trouble is, they need to be provided with adequate manpower and resources to accomplish that. If not, then pull 'em out. This "containment" of a neverending insurgency while the Iraqis twiddle their thumbs trying to form a government is for the birds.

BTW, Jimgib says "Hi".

"Hi" back at ya, Jimgib, wherever you are! Long time no see!

I always appreciate and enjoy perspective commentary done in a way I can relate to.

We only had one car ... my buddy's, and it was waiting for him to become legal ('50 ford), so for about a year we practiced getting all three gears in the back yard from the back fence to the house ... about 30 feet.
If his mother wasn't home, we snuck? it out across the street where some kind of factory had long been empty and practiced how fast we could take a corner without rolling it. Came close a couple of times but never did.

"I can see speaking against the Commander in Chief" "We all did it when Clinton was in there"......

I understand what you are saying. We do have the right of free speech. However, I don't believe I remember anyone of Murtha's position, or with Murtha's military experience speaking out against Clinton, (as rotten as he was). If NOTHING ELSE, just for the sake of respect for our military forces, and respect for the President of the U.S., he should keep his trap shut! We all know that he is just doing his political grandstanding at the expense of our country and our military. His comments for a man in Murtha's position no doubt give aid and comfort to the enemy, therefore, to me this is treason, not free speech! His oath should be to serve and protect.

I agree. He certainly doesn't give any comfort to our troops. That should be his main mission. And I still say the opponents can say what they want...IF IT'S TRUE. They are obviously lying about Bush and Cheney "lying us into war." IF that were true, it would be a bad thing, probably an impeachable offense, but we all know what went into the decision to go to war. We all know what the circumstances were. They know what went into the decision and agreed with it. They can't make the case. To now turn and say what they are saying is hypocritical AND, as you say, treasonous. Unfortunately, Clintoon rewrote the book on treason. I don't think treason will ever be a crime again with as much of it as Clintoon and his goons got away with it.

In spite of it all, I still like the Republicans response to do the vote and make the DemocRATs put up or shut up. That move was pure genius. I don't think even Murtha voted for it. The live thread on FR about that one really cracked me up.
