At least one Arab television media outlet reported that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the head of the al-Qaida in Iraq, was killed in Iraq on Sunday afternoon when eight terrorists blew themselves up in the in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

The unconfirmed report claimed that the explosions occurred after coalition forces surrounded the house in which al-Zarqawi was hiding.

WASHINGTON, Nov 20 (Reuters) - U.S. authorities are looking into whether al Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed in a gunfight in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, a U.S. official said on Sunday, but a White House spokesman said that was "highly unlikely."

It'd be funny if he didn't want to go and his followers took him down with them.

My opinion on this is that if they did get Zarqawi, it's a direct result of his actions in Jordan. After the bombing and the direct threats on the King, Jordanian intelligence decided to take the gloves off. Maybe a member of the intelligence services even knew where he was. But after what's happened in the last 10 days, King Abdullah said "enough," and got us the information that we needed.

an AQ site has a statement saying they lost a very senior person...with a photo of Zarq ..

Let's hope al-Zarqawi has finally come up snake eyes. Then, let's hope Dubya's still in the mood to serve up a big ol' steamin' cuppa shuddup to Murtha and the rest of the "we've done all we can" clowns.

I'll believe it when it makes the NYT headline..

Tests have shown that the NYT is wrong 85-percent of the time.

I'd wait for a more reliable source.

They have to get out and front of this story....imagine the shock to the AQ nervous system if it is announced we bagged Zman....so they lay the ground work to get the other goobers prepared...for the bad news.

Its not just that, the likely death of al-Douri was a massive blow to Zarqawi as he was the go between to most of the Baathist insurgent groups. Without him the chance one of them would kill him is much higher.

But, not only that we are getting close to the election and the Sunnis don't want him targeting them during the election.

If it is confirmed the rat is dead, some lib/commie will put his picture on a T-shirt and make him an anti-American hero, like Che Guevarra (sp).

I really think one of the local Iraqis didn't care much for his neighbor Zarqawi threatening the King of Jordan and decided to turn him in, either that or a "family" member fingered him.
